Reading the thread on peoples' reactions to Ted Kennedy's death got me wondering about this. If you select 'other' please post and explain!

For a poll that focuses in on the spiritual aspect of these broad worldviews, check out this poll: http://www.ticklingforum.com/showthread.php?t=160955 which attempts to be radically inclusive of all the major spiritual belief systems.

Your poll choices don't allow for any variances in personal belief. Character points that aren't mutually exclusive cannot be chosen together in your layout. For example, i'm Libertarian, but also spiritual, and I would say conservative as well. Religious and political outlooks are not completely linked in my opinion. Just a thought. As for Ted Kennedy, I wish death on very few people, and while I do not agree with his political outlook, nor do I think that murderers should walk free, I don't think he deserved to die. I am sad for his family, but I think the country will be better off in the long run with him out of the government.

You're right, but the poll tool doesn't allow for 6 billion variations on the basic underlying psychological structures that generate the worldviews being debated on the surface in the culture wars, so people are asked to choose from among the broad general categories they are closest to. You can't be too literal with the labels, one reason I selected several labels from various developmentalists for each of the major worldviews that span the spectrum of human consciousness. Think of them as probability clouds where you're most likely to find your current 'center of gravity' so to speak.

To your other point, developmentalists have found thru almost a century of cross-cultural empirical research that religious and political outlooks are very closely related as they're both products of the same underlying worldview/point of view/perspective/lens thru which humans see, interpret, enact, construct, co-create reality: religion and politics are interpreted thru the same interpretive apparatus in an individual, that's why they're called belief systems or value systems with religious, political, economic, etc. components or branches.

I voted for postliberal/holistic/philosophical/communitarian since I consider myself a liberal Christian and that belief set is the closest to my own views, I guess...although that other choice, postmodern/pluralistic/psychological/liberal ties in with it, as well. I wish I could've voted for more than one belief set.

Darn, I should drink less, I voted postmodern instead of modern.

LOL...maybe you really are postmodern; that great map you used to have in your signature poking fun at the ignorance and nationalism of middle America is a great postmodern critique of modernism...
