Would identical twins be equally ticklish?

I'm guessing that they would, as they have the same physical structure and everything.

Interesting question... *runs to lab to run some tests* no, wait, I don't have any twins to experiment with, or any lab either, damn...

Well, since identical twins have very similar DNAs, I guess their level of ticklishness should be similar as well, but it's just a guess. You can't really be sure, it'd be like saying that because someone's mother is ticklish then they should be ticklish too. I still favor the thought that they should at least be similar though...

I had identical twin cousins who were both outrageously ticklish, and I never saw much difference between them. And believe me, I did plenty of research!

If Iden-tickle twins are equally ticklish, does that then imply that ticklishness is hereditary? 😵 🙂

what about twins joined at a particular body area and share lets say 1 set of legs............if you tickled a foot , would they both laugh??

LOL How delightfully surreal is this thread. 😀 😀 😀 Interesting questions!

Hmm, conjoined twins? (I.e. Siamese twins) Now that IS an interesting question... I would imagine it depends on how the nerve system is arranged in their conjoined body. As long as the nerves in the feet are connected to both brains, yes, I would say I think they would both laugh when their feet are tickled.

Of course, another example; if they were joined, say, at the side of the torso, and their nervous systems were also completely joined at this point, then there is the possibility that both twins might be able to experience simultaneously being tickled on FOUR feet instead of two... *Twisted Grin*

dont think so, it may be a litle more complicated than that

Nope, Sorry

Sorry to rain in on your parade but tickling is not hereditary. If two identical twins were seperated from birth it is possible that they have different levels of ticklishness once they mature into adulthood. Ticklishness has more to do with the state of mind and forms during maturity through the senses and experiences of every individual person.

I'm always somewhat amused by people who seem to KNOW these things as matters of absolute fact.

well as far as i see it it depends on your stance on the Nature V Nurture debate.

If see ticklishness as Biological (Nature) then yes it is an absolute certanty that Identical Twins would be Identicaly Ticklish 🙂 *happy thoughts*

However if you belive that is it Psychological and Environmental (Nurture) then it would depend on if they have been brought up the same and developed the same. in this case it would be less likely.

now most twin studies i'v seen have shown that traits are not purly biological, nor are they purley Psychological or Environmental.
There is a modal theory (the name of which presently escapes me) that states that in these kinds of situations - it is usualy used for mood disorders - that to develop the trait there must be a predesposing characteristic present within the individual, which will then be triggered by an event in life at any point (encompassing both Nature and Nuture) i feel that it may be useful in explaining ticklishness....(I knew I took psychology for a reason)
Now, we should get some coin together and perform a study on Identical Twins 🙂

In two of my recent Marty McFly's Torment stories, I sort of addressed the issue of if Mike Flaherty and Alex Keaton would be equally ticklish. They're not technically identical twins - but they were both characters that were played by Michael J Fox, so they would have the same physical structure. Here is the excerpt.

Mike then felt horrified. He knew that the soles of his own feet were very ticklish, perhaps even as ticklish as Alex's.

'Ah, but Alex,' Mike protested, 'I'm not ticklish on my feet.'

'Oh, you expect me to believe that?' Alex asked, laughing. 'I don't believe you, Mike. We both have the same physical structure, after all.'

'Yeah, but it doesn't mean that my feet are ticklish,' Mike said, smirking.

'Well, let me check, just to make sure,' Alex said, grinning wickedly. 'Take off your socks and shoes.'

No, I think they don't. I have twin sister and we are ticklish in other places and in other degree.
