Ted Bundy..notorious woman killer...lured his victims with a false sense of security, by pretending to have an injury and needing help..looked like a fine upstanding citizen..even killed a child...we aren't sure of his exact number of victims...Ted Bundy..he had charm, looks, personality...

My question is this...would Ted Bundy have utilized the internet to search for his victims, if he had had the access and ability to do so? Would he have had far many more victims than the thirty to forty plus victims he did murder? Ted was suave, debonair...some thought he even had a future in politics...maybe the President one day...he had a way with words...just perfect for an online predator...Do you think Ted Bundy would have been an online predator?

Probably so. Interestingly, it likely would have led to his capture well short of whatever his final tally ended up being. You'll notice there's little news anymore about serial killers. There's three reasons for that. First, there's been a purposeful attempt by both the media and law enforcement to tone down the tabloid-style reporting on these cases, so as not to give these scum any celebrity status for their terrible crimes. Second, as alluded to above, it's getting easier to catch predators, thanks to the digital age. Third, there are so many people running around these days, doing batshit-crazy crap to one another, it's gotta be really over-the-top(think like that guy in Canada who killed a fellow passenger and then slowly sawed-off the guy's head during that standoff a year or so ago) to get any press.

Mr. Bundy had a rather, shall we say colorful history, apart from his horrible crimes.

And according to Wikipedia: The night before Bundy was executed, he gave a television interview to Dr. James Dobson, psychologist and head of the evangelical Christian organization Focus on the Family. During the interview, Bundy made repeated claims as to the pornographic "roots" of his crimes. ...

Never let it be said that the "religious" right can ever stoop too low.

I can refer you to a book i think you'd like if you're interested in the mindset/thought process/motivations of a serial killer. Its called "The Evil 100" its basically criminal profiles and background info of the 100 most evil men and women who ever lived. It has everyone from Hitler to Torquemada to the Zodiac. Its fascinating. My brother bought it for me for my birthday and I couldn't put it down.

I've actually seen a bootleg of that, Ted appears contrite through most of it, and I suspect he thinks he's putting one over on Dobson(and the viewers). At one point, Dobson asks Bundy to describe some of his crimes, and he gets all crocodile teary-eyed, but I swear, if you look close? The bastard seems to be hiding a grin. Rot in Hell, Ted.

Thank you..i am indeed very interested in the mindset/thought process etc of a serial killer...thanks for the info...i'll look for it on Amazon..

Ted Bundy, unlike the bulk of online predators, appeared to be intelligent and charming. It's unlikely that he would NEED to even bother with stalking people on the internet.

It's possible, though I don't know if he'd want to go through the motions of making a person feel safe enough to meet up after countless IMs and phone calls, when he clearly didn't need to based on his looks and charm IRL. That said, it's doubtful he would have gotten as far as he did in this day and age based on the technology we now have. Especially if he used the internet to look for victims.

Yep. Pretty much mirrors what I said.

I actually have the movie they made about him but i don't think he would need the internet to get victims he just had the looks and charm

Ah...Ted Bundy...may he be turned on the flaming spit in hell many more times like the animal he was.

I wish we could have a window into hell to show all the would be sociopaths and serial killers what's gonna happen to them if they do what they do.

As the old saying goes, "be mindful in thought and in deed for as you stare into the abyss, beware, for the abyss also stares back into you".

Interesting idea for a cable channel!

Seriously, criminal sociopaths are bad news. Paranoia isn't warranted but eternal vigilance is.

i saw that interview with ted bundy and james D.
cant really recall too much of it now though.

If Bundy or Daumer had the internet options that are out there now, they would have most likely used them. However, as appears to have happened with the alleged "Craigslist" killer, they would have been found out eventually. You repeat the same crime long enough and you'll get caught. You have to remember, criminal profiling was still in it's infancy back then. Back then, serial criminals like them were often not caught until (1) the death count was high enough to create a national dragnet for them or (2) they made some sort of mistake or something unplanned (by them) happened that caused them to be caught. Like the serial rapists/murders in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. No one had a clue what was happening there until by chance one of the victims managed to escape and got help.

There may be some out there right now, scanning the sites and looking for victims. Another reason why you can't be too careful meeting someone live from an online site. 99.44% of us here are (most likely) safe to be with, but you never know when you'll meet up with that 0.56%...
