As far as the undertaker goes,of course he wasn't like the old undertaker.why would he be..that was then this is now.he's older now.his careers winding down.what he is doing is somewhat of a salute to the chaacter that made him the legend he is.sure he may have not LOOKED like the classic undertaker but who can look like they did 15 years ago
I think what Draco69 was trying to say is that he wasn't dressed as the old Undertaker. You know, the ripped and torn shirt, the tie, the grey gloves, the facial makeup to make him look more dead, etc.
To see him come out as a mix of old and new was a little disappointing to hardcore Undertaker fans that appriciate all the little nuances that made him who he was both as visualized by McMahon and made real by himself.
His body is actually better conditioned and formed now then it was at any point in his career, I think. His muscles are more defined too. So I don't think if he had worn his old costume that it would have made a difference.
I just think alot of fans would have really liked it if he came out looking the way he did when he first debuted at Survivor Series. That would have been ideal and would have put further emphasis on his 'rizing from the dead' as the plot is that he literally has rizen from the dead, from six feet under. The old costume would have worked better in this regard. It would have sold and unleashed the buildup to Wrestlemania to see him dressed like he used to be.
Although, I'm guessing this didn't happen because we are to assume he was risen site on scene. His promos said " at Wrestlemania the dead will rise again", not "the dead has risen". So to be technical about it, thats why there wasn't a costume change. Its not like he would have went home to get changed or something. The point is he's coming back for revenge ASAP. So what he was wearing when he was buried is what he'd be wearing when he arrives at Wrestlemania obviously.
I just think the promos were misleading as far as his appearance was going to be concerned. Although we were given a blast from the past in that he did walk out to his old entrance music with the lighting, the lightning and eerie origan music, the druids, the purple mist, and Paul Bearer were there too. At least he also came out wearing the hat and the trenchcoat so we could at least see him as he was to a degree. But the disappointment is when the hat and trenchcoat come off, he doesn't look any different than he did before he left. The only real difference is he is letting his hair grow out again, he has dyed his hair, he used his old mannerisms and gimmicks, and some of his old wrestling style.
All in all, the return was awesome, but the presentation could have been a bit better in my opinion.
Although I haven't actually seen Wrestlemania yet, but I'm thinking about ordering it. I have seen the pictures though, and thats enough to make this much of an estimation.
I'll bet no one was expecting such focused post, but its something I've been meaning to say since I saw the pictures and the clips from Wrestlemania. I am also a big Undertaker fan. Have been since I was a kid. And when I was a kid I went to a live event when Undertaker was still in his original persona. It was at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim California. The Undertaker wrestled Lex Lugar. I actually met Lex Lugar an hour or two before the event at a gas station. We were filling up the tank and there he was, obviously dressed casually LOL. My dad and my friend went up to him inside the station and we asked for his autographs, so we got his autographs. "Are you Lex Lugar?!" "Yes I am! Whats your name? *as he's going to write my name down*"
It was a moment in my childhood I won't forget. It also made it funny to meet him first and then watch him turn tail and run from the Undertaker and the arena, thus forfeiting the match. He was trying to knock Undertaker down with his forearm (the one that had the plate in it or whatever), and Lex knocked Taker down a few times, but he just kept getting back up. If I remember correctly there was no tombstone piledriver (something I would have wanted to see since its one of my favorite moves) but Taker may have delivered a chokeslam or two.
Anyways, it was cool. My apologies for the dribble and runoff. It just meant alot to me, and all this Wrestlemania talk everywhere hyped me up. Although it is a shame that Lugar is/was/possibly going to prison as of late for being a suspect in the murder of whats her name...I can't remember. Its kind of scary in retrospect that I met someone as a child who has turned out to be a suspect in a murder. :wooha:
