Wrestling fans: Your thoughts on how the return of the nWo was handled?

As a huge...HUGE fan of the original new World order that started in WCW, I was so excited that night on smackdown when Vince claimed they were coming to destroy the federation...they built it up so high, and the follow-through was horrible...in WCW, the nWo was serious. They came out and destroyed everything, made a mockery of everything pro wrestling fans held sacred, and damn near took over wcw. They showed no mercy, and always came out on top...most of the time...and as new members joined, they grew in strength...and they were unstoppable. Then, the writers screwed everything up and wcw went down, but thats another story. Anyhow, I honestly think that if the nWo had been Vinces TOP priority, and it obviously was not, the new World order would have exploded again, and would still be stronger than ever...your opinions?

The failure of the "new" nWo had nothing to do with how they were booked and everything to do with Scott Hall's failures of self-control and Kevin Nash's inability to walk three steps without injuring himself.

They really Bombed it big time, iT maybe would have lasted if they let them win and dint loose hogan i still think they would all still be here.

I thought the re-birth of the NWO would have been better if it was led by Shane McMahon. But I agree that it did not have the "heat" it had during the prime of WCW.

The NWO was one of the most original gimmicks ever established.

Personally, I'm not at all surprised or disappointed that they didn't last. I didn't like them anyway. I saw them much as I see Scott Steiner...overdeveloped and underachieving. I don't think any of them ahd any decent ring presence or impressive abilities.

Just my $.02

Scott Stiner is just a walking steroid factory.

The WWE has never worked with large factions for very long. At least, not as long as the nWo's lifespan(Original WCW lifespan, that is.). Right now, I think Evolution has got potential to wreak a little havoc, but they probably won't have a very long lifespan in the spotlight. To this day, I think Degeneration X was probably the best faction (if you could even call it that.) that WWE ever worked with.

While these groups can be fun, I'm kinda glad that they don't last overly long. When they have the same guys in the same battles week after week, things tend to get stale a lot more quickly. Shake things up a bit. Move on. Start trouble somewhere else. Keeps things fresh that way.

The nWo could have worked.

When the nWo first appeared in WCW they had a good formula...big names+big, intimidating guys + short matches full of spots, followed by a run-in/beatdown = huge ratings. Hogan and the belt was the centerpiece, and the group was formed around him and WCW revolved around the nWo...later they expanded to include guys that actually could wrestle so they could have longer matches that didn't involve the old, brittle members..except for the inevitable run-in. In the WWE, the nWo could have been used to help put young talent over while "protecting" the aged trio from actually wrestling in extended matches. Especially good young guys like Jamie Noble, Batista, John Cena, and Randy Orton. Avoid the "mass defections" to the group...that's what killed it in the WCW. At one point i think nearly everyone mid-card or higher had been in the nWo at one time or another. This could have been good.

Vince muffed another one...oh well.
