I feel bad that nobody responded so I will, even though I'm across the country and wouldn't attend due to proximity.
Anyway, I'm not so sure this would necessarily work out in a real life setting. Poetry readings work out because the text is typically fairly short, but a story could be quite long. Additionally, because a poem is far less complex than a story, doing a poetry reading works well because a minor change can completely alter the interpretation, whereas changing a few words wouldn't necessarily have the same effect on a story. Plus, the overall complexity of story, motive, characters and description in a story brings up a large amount of talking points, to the point where it would probably be best if each sitting was dedicated to one person so that their work could be adequately spoken about. Although I say that about stories, all of those elements are possible within a small poem as well, but each word has so much more weight/you can develop a strong image with of a person or motive with a single word.
Rather than a munch, I feel like you would be far better off forming a small literary group on the web where discussions would be far easier and time constraints wouldn't be an issue. That's something I could support, however..
Over the years I've come to the conclusion that a lot of people who submit written works don't communicate amongst each other. This is my biased anecdotal evidence, obviously, but that's what I see. I'm interested in assisting to break that barrier, for sure, but I'm not sure how easy it would be. I've only been in communication with 3, maybe 4, different writers over the 10ish years I've been around.
But, if a group of people was organized, I think this could work on the internet if perhaps a different person/work was covered on a (possibly) weekly basis. That's something I could get behind.
Another recommendation, if you're still interested in the meeting up part, is possibly posting this thread somewhere other than the writers workshop, such as the tickling discussion forum or even the personals. However, I suspect that the limited scope of this munch (writers/a specific (granted high population) area) might be a difficult sell.
Regardless, best of luck, I hope this works out for you.
