I have to rant, sorry. yesterday, I went to put a game into my current Xbox, purchased from Best Buy on 4/28/09. It was my 3rd 360. the first one began to show the message 'to play this game, please put it into and Xbox 360 console" when I put a game...into the 360 console. I sent it back to Microsoft who haggled over $75 then sent me a check for it afterwards. the replacement after a year or so gave me the half-ring of death, indicating overheating. this time I just went to best buy and bought an arcade model flat out with their 2 year replacement plan. That was April. Now I put a game in there and the lazer attempts to read it, then doesn't even detect it...just goes from 'reading' to 'open tray' as though the disc doesn't exist. So now I'm kinda glad I got that replacement plan.
Thing is, I have an N64, bought on the same Christmas as the Zelda Ocarina game came out. I have a launch PS2...an old PS1 somewhere, and they all work fine, always have. If I still had my SNES from back in Scotland I'm sure it would work too. Hell, I even dug out my old dreamcast from the dampness and cold of the basement, and it worked!
Yet, my Microsoft systems...I went through 2 Xbox's before the system became outdated (disc read errors yet again), and in a couple days I'll go to Best Buy for my 4th 360!! The games are the best around and it's a big part of my home theatre system...I stream stuff from my computer to watch through my 360 all the time. Otherwise I wouldn't touch another Microsoft-made console again with a 10 foot pole. Nearly every friend I have who owns one has had to replace it at least once. I think about their other products full of delays and bugs, yet they have so much of the world dependent on them that they remain fat and happy on the top. they should use some of those profits on quality control. They certainly come up with good ideas and concepts for electronics and software, but their manufacturing is just...awful.
