I hope you like the covenant, you'll play as them a few times in single player. You play as this guy called an "Arbiter". He's the covenant's answer to Master Chief. You don't actually see them butt heads, though. You end up working together, sort of. But online, you can either use the 'spartan' model, or the Elite.

i don't know all of halos wepons, but they follow a wepon guideline as i can it. you have a pistol, shotgun, machine gun, plasma gun, bazooka. i mean, halo is awesome, but it brings backawful memories for my stupidity for selling my xbox and i gotta save money before i can get a new xbox and halo 2, so i'm yearning for it like a crack addict going cold turkey, so it hurts to talk about it, lol.
Actually, there's 2 'bazookas' now.
Magnum (no more zoom scope)
Sub Machine Gun
Shotgun
Battle Rifle (think Halo 1 SMG, but with automatic bursts and a zoom scope)
Rocket Launcher (can now lock on to vehicles)
Sniper Rifle
Energy Sword (when the target reticle turns red on an enemy, press it and you do a fatal lunge which kills everyone that doesn't have an overshield)
Needler
Plasma Pistol (is useless by itself, but one overcharge takes out shields, even overshields)
Plasma Rifle
Brute Plasma Rifle (just about the same as a plasma rifle, except it's red. whoopie.)
Covenant Carbine (Think covenant Battle Rifle)
Fuel Rod Cannon (Never seen this in a multiplayer game, so I assume it doesn't exist online)
Brute Shot (think bouncy-grenade launcher with a 1 foot long 'bayonet' on the back)
Dual weapons are a new and beautiful thing. The dual weapon combos can make/break you in this game.
Weapons that cannot be dual-weld:
Brute Shot
Fuel Rod Cannon
Covenant Carbine
Energy Sword
Sniper Rifle
Battle Rifle
Shotgun
Rocket Launcher
If you can actually aim with this shit controller setup, this is the best combo for you:
Plasma Pistol + Magnum
One overcharge from the Plasma Pistol can wipe out any shields, and one shot to the unprotected head with a magnum is instant death.
Drawbacks:
-It requires decent aiming.
-If you're facing 2+ enemies, you'll most likely get killed as it takes some seconds for the Plasma Pistol to cool down.
If you're not so awesome at aiming, this is the combo for you:
Plasma Rifle + SMG
The Plasma Rifle has the same function as the Plasma Pistol: Taking out shields, except it takes longer because it doesn't have an overcharge. If you just hold down both triggers, the SMG will aid the Plasma Rifle, and once the shields are dead, the Plasma Rifle aids the SMG in shredding their flesh.
Underrated, less used combos:
Anything with the needler
The needler isn't a powerful weapon, despite the way it looks. However, it has some homing abilities, and one time I unloaded a clip on person, fully shielded, and he died. I dunno why, but he wasn't moving, so I just took advantage of it.
Battle Rifle/Covenant Carbine usage:
I consider these to be "secondary sniper rifles". They both come with a 2x zoom, and can shoot straight, and far. However, the battle rifle shoots bursts of 3, while the carbine shoots singular energy blasts. Often times, a battle rifle/covenant carbine can outgun the dual wielders, but mostly only if you get the jump on somebody else. The other pro to having these weapons is that you can still throw grenades. The drawback is that they run out of ammo fast.
Rocket Launcher/Brute Shot usage:
The rocket launcher is easily the most abused weapon in the game. It requires little aiming at all. In fact, if somebody jumps in the air to 'counter' a rocket blast, and your rocket hits the floor under them, they still die. Another reason that it's abused is because of the "rocket sword" technique. If you have a rocket launcher, and an energy sword, pull out the rocket launcher and aim at somebody very far. Press Y and then R, if you do it right, the sword will draw, and it does the fatal lunge. If you do it fast enough, it will still think the reticle is red, even though the sword normally doesn't reach that far, and you'll literally fly through the air at 100 M.P.H. and render somebody dead. You'll get accused of cheating, but it's not cheating, as anyone can do it. Also, when people get into vehicles, the rocket launcher can lock-on and fire a heat-seeking round that instantly destroy the vehicle. Usually, you wouldn't need to do this much as ground vehicles don't stand much of a chance against a good grenade, but, some levels have the banshee (flying) vehicles. These can be a real pain in the ass, I would know, when I jump in one, I fly above the level and pick people off. The only way to take one out is:
-if the idiot pilot flies low enough, you can hijack it
-rocket launcher
-snipe them from behind, because your backside is exposed in a banshee
Brute shots. . . what can I say. They're terribly overrated. They have awesome destructive power if used right, and the foot-long bayonet on the back can kill somebody in an instant, but aiming is the problem. The shots arc weird, and bounce. But, it holds more rounds then a rocket launcher, and can fire faster. 2 shots can kill somebody. Don't bother with it, unless you can actually use it.
Shotgun/Brute Plasma Rifle Usage:
Shotguns are tricky weapons, because they're powerful, but only if used right. For some reason, some people with shotguns can blow out your shields and kill you with one shot, while I've chased somebody around with it and it took 4 shots to kill them. Get really close, and aim for the neck. You'll hit their face and their chest, blowing their shields at the very least.
Brute Plasma Rifle. . .is the same damn thing as the plasma rifle, except it has a red coating, and shoots red blasts. It sucks, and is otherwise useless, unless you've got nothing else.
Energy Sword/Sniper Rifle usage:
This one's easy. Attempt to hide and use stealth, and when somebody foolishly passes by, target them and do the fatal lunge, and go back into hiding. Sometimes you can take out groups of people, but that's only if they're really unaware of what's going on. Most of the time, if you go after a group and you manage to assassinate one, the others will pump rounds into you and probably kill you, and 90% of the time will pick up the sword you dropped. So, don't drop the ball with this weapon. Used right, and you can gain most of the kills. Used wrong, and you passively destroy your team.
The sniper rifle. . .this one's another team maker/breaker. If you use it right, you'll pick plenty of people off. 2 shots to the face will do somebody in. But if you're no good with it, you're fucked, and when you die, the enemy almost always picks it up. Find a good spot to snipe from (requires exploration), and you need to find quite a few spots, and have reliable teammates. The trick is to be stationary for a minute, and gone the next. People getting sniped always commincate with eachother. Everytime somebody gets sniped, the first words out of their mouth is "sniper". Then, they hunt for you, so you need to move. If I get stuck playing the sniper, I like to look for a group of 2 people, take them out, and then move. Two shots give up position/location, so, time to break. Move on to the next spot (escorted by a temmate usually) and pick off 2 more.
Why did I put this up, you ask? I'm really bored.
