I seem to remember reading that its possible to use yahoo im without downloading all the other yahoo crap that i don't want.Anyone familiar with this?

Yeah. Im familiar with it. You can download Yahoo Im without getting the yahoo toolbar and other crap. I think it was custom install

There appears to be a specific version from Yahoo!: http://messenger.yahoo.com/webmessenger.php

Another alternative is to try the service Meebo, which allows (supposedly) for chat on or between any of the major IM services: http://www.meebo.com/

When i try to run the software needed,i get a message that the proxy settings on my computer are blocking the download.I have only a vauge idea of what proxy settings are,and not a clue as to how one goes about changing them? 😕
