While I'm glad the elderly women was able to get back the money she needed for her son's medical care, she clearly doesn't understand what it' like to be in jail, released from jail, or to be stuck with a criminal record. You can't get a job to save your life and literally your life is on the line as with no job and no public assistance your pretty much forced to either steal or starve/die from exposure. I'm not excusing what the thief did, I'm simply saying it's understandable.
