Is it just me or did you tube change ?? Seems that now you can't download ANY clips from you tube what so ever! They removed the code needed to change the clips to flv. so they can be downloaded using keepvid and programs like that..anyone else see that?

Yeah, they seem to be catching on. You can try a program called VDownloader and take the URL right from the page, that works, sometimes.

The online flv retriever called GooTube seems to work well. Just copy the youtube or google video URL from your browser and paste it into the GooTube's input video URL: -- Be sure not to check the "auto start the download" box, and do not be watching the video from youtube or google when you start the download. After selecting the "Retrieve Now" button, you can save and rename the file like you do with Keep Vid. I never had any problems downloading youtube videos using GooTube. Here is the link to GooTube http://kej.tw/flvretriever/

I can't work out why Youtube are against downloading. Knobbers.

*sigh*

Me neither, its to do with preventing anyone from downloading copies of copyrighted programs, as they have alot of big name companies with their own official channels using the site. If you want to download clips or episodes of a series then you can try such places as stage6, veoh, even (ironically) google video, though unfortunately for the latter two the search function seems broken to me, at least if you want to find anything specific. There is always the ability to use torrents as well.

I think youtube is going to become too much hassle for most people when it comes to trying to download anything off it.

I use Download Helper. It's a firefox extension that can easily give you the download link for a number of video sites, including youtube. I just tested it and it still works on youtube.

Downloading FLV files on a MAC

I can't remember where I read this, but it seems to work really well with almost every site I have tried that has FLV files.

In the Safari Web Browser, go to You Tube for example and click on the video you want to watch. Wait until it downloads all the way and starts to play.

Now go up top under the Window menu and click on Activity and look for the largest file there.....that will be the actual FLV file you want. Just simply double click on that file and it will start to download.

When the file downloads, it should have an FLV extension.....if not, just rename the file with an FLV extension. That's it, no other program necessary.

Obviously, you will need an FLV player to view the actual file. I use VLC which seems to work extremely well. Enjoy.........
