Since it's now December, I think it is OK to discuss this.

On December 17 1843 Chapman & Hall published A Christmas Carol, the iconic novella by Charles Dickens. This story of redemption has been presented countless times on stage, and many film versions have been released.

In my never to be humble opinion the only film adaptation worth watching is the classic British version, released in 1951 with Alastair Sim as the bitter, miserly Scrooge. Kathleen Harrison was his his poor charwoman, a very minor character who was unnamed in the book. Mervyn Johns was his much put upon clerk, Bob Cratchat. I watch this wonderful film every year, usually on Christmas Eve.

I finally found the clip I was looking for.

My favorite Christmas film is Frank Capra's classic It's A Wonderful Life. 😀

I am such a B movie geek.I really enjoy this cheesey film. 😀

That's a tough one, since there are so many to choose from. I would probably have to narrow it down to three (in no particular order):

White Christmas
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol
(yes, the one with Alistair Sim)

In addition, I'm also very fond of some of the animated Christmas shorts:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (gotta love any cartoon that combines the talents of Ted Geisel (Dr. Seuss), Chuck Jones and Boris Karloff)
A Charlie Brown Christmas
A Wish for Wings That Work

R

General Zod, I own that on DVD!

Anyways... favorite holiday film? It's a Wonderful Life is good, but I can only watch it every two or three years. A Christmas Story gets played every year at my relative's house, sometimes multiple times in one day, so I've come to resent what is actually a rather funny film.

But favorite? A Muppet Family Christmas holds a dear, nostalgic place in my heart. (Though it's sadly not available in its entirety on DVD.) The Muppet Christmas Carol is also a great one. The animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas is also a key festive film.

Home Alone and Elf are family favorites in our household. Already have watched each movie twice since Thanksgiving and probably a few more times until Christmas.

The MST3K episodes of Santa Claus and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians!! It's a Wonderful Life, The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Gremlins, and of course the greatest Christmas special of all time. The One that's garunteed to spread the most holiday cheer!!!

DIE HARD MOTHAFUCKA!!!!!

Scrooge the 1970 musical version with Albert Finney.

Thank you very much!

The Lemodrop Kid. Released by Paramount Pictures in 1951, starring Bob Hope as The Kid and Marylin Maxwell as his love intrest. The bell ringing Santa is William Frawley, probably remembered by most as Fred Mertz from the I Love Lucy TV series. Jane Darwell (who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role of Ma Joad in The Grapes of Weath) is Nellie Tuesday in the film.

Has to be Gremlins.....ignoring the fact that it's stuffed full of evil, green, chainsaw wielding, snow white loving monsters, it's actually full of festive cheer! 😉

Second...or rather third the Die Hard shout though.

I would have to agree with the above.

Christmas Vacation. Hands down.

So many great scenes to pick from, but probably my favorite is this one...

Slayride- venison, anyone?? Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life" always makes me count my blessings.

Miracle on 34th Street. Distributed by 20th Century Fox (1947) starring Maureen O'Hara as Doris, head of the toy department at Macy's with a young Natalie Wood as her daughter Susan, John Payne as their neighbor and Edmund Quinn as Kris Kringel.

I love the classics, but my favorite is The Polar Express! 😀

A viewing of it is essential during the next few weeks.

White Christmas. Released by Paramount Pictures in 1954, starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye as WWII veterans. Rosemary Clooney and Mary Wicker are the sisters they will fall for. Dean Jagger also starred in this film. Musical score by the legendary Irving Berlin. I watched it last night on AMC.

Actually the clip you posted was from another great Bing Christmas movie with Fred Astaire......"Holiday Inn".

And no, I'm not an expert. Ann introduced me to both these classics a few years ago.
