Tell us something about your home town things you love or hate and why:

What I loved about it: Mardi Gras

What I hate about it: That it's still being rebuilt apparently

Personally, I really love my hometown. I can't see myself moving back there anytime soon, but that's just because it's still a bit small and... well, I don't get along too well with my family, either.

But I love the place. There's lots of friendly people, things to do, great memories, and it's fun to watch the place grow up as a city...

The only thing I hate is that a lot of the good stuff only came into the city after I moved away almost a decade ago. That and whenever I go back there, something I remember fondly from my past has a chance of having closed.

Sorry to hear that Bella. My family is fairly liberal (at least my parents, brother, and sister are) and even for them it was hard accepting the fact that I'm a lesbian (I haven't revealed to them that I'm actually a official slave to my lover yet though [don't know how they would handle that and somehow I don't think they COULD handle it). Is (or was) your family fairly conservative or religious? That can make things...tense to say the least.

Heh, that happens alot to you too huh? Until I moved to NY, every village, town, and city I lived in always came alive when me or my family moved away from it. It's as if the settlement itself decided to celebrate me and my kin leaving. :cry

Ah, mine don't even know that I'm bi or that I'm in a relationship with my best friend. Yes, they are deeply part of the religious right wing, but I think that's only a part of the problem. I think my father in particular had this very clear view of how he wanted his life and his family to be, and my choices don't coincide with the ones I'm "supposed to make."

But at least that hasn't dimmed the view I have of the place I grew up. 🙂

Shit. That's bound to cause problems.

Well, hopefully he'll loosen up one day. All children need room to grow and make their own decisions (which aren't always based on the same values or principles of their parents).

Glad to see you still love your home town. I llluuuvvved New Orleans when I was there (aside from waking up one day and finding out the floor of our 2nd story apartment had a foot of dirty water covering it [LOL]). From a certain restaurant's famous powdered donuts, to the parades, to the general attitude of the place, people loved it there. I still can't believe our government just up and left it entirely up to FEMA to save it. Presidents like F.D.R. and Clinton would have mobilized all possible sources of aid. What did Bush do instead? He hid in his private mansion and trimmed his f'ing rose bushes.

It's not called the Big Easy for nothing. 😉 Since disaster struck the place, I've been hoping for a quicker recovery for the city, but I doubt it'll stay down for much longer. That's just the spirit of the place.

Little Rock was a lot different, though. It's a quieter, more relaxed place, and that's the mood of much of the state. It's not the Deep South, and it's not the Midwest. It just likes to exist on its own and grow at its own pace.

I hate that it's so tiny and jobless. I love the people and the schools, though, except for the middle school. That place was a hellhole. Also... it's in Virginia, so it's got an awesome climate that allows for snow, and more importantly than that, it's a part of American history.

OH! I also hate that the old people who run the town try their best to keep it jobless, turning away every business that tries to come to town.

I don,t miss getting up as early as I used to when I lived on the farm. I would have to go to school and make good grades, play whatever sport was in season and work as well, while learning to play guitar and keyboards. I was burned out and I didn,t even realize it until I made it to university. Now I only take a few classes{ones that I enjoy and am interested in}, I keep in shape and play hockey, the rest of my time usually goes to practicing playing and writing lyrics. I,m not getting paid but I am getting a free ride because of sports and this seems great in comparison. What I don,t like about university is the attention, I,m very private{which sounds silly because I,m writing it on here} person, but when you play for the university hockey team all this bullshit comes with it.

I hate that it's in a state which had its own half-hour segment on This American Life, the show about dysfunctional governments. I hate that for years, the city fathers tore down much of it for a redevelopment plan that was unrealistic even on paper and the fact that most of my fellow citizens didn't care as long as the shopping mall stayed open and their cable TV kept on working. I hate that it's economically depressed and somewhat crime-ridden and the fact that most of my fellow citizens don't seem to care as long as the shopping mall stays open and their cable TV keeps on working. I hate that the music scene (with noteworthy exceptions) is mostly cover bands. I like the fact that some people are doing whatever they can to bring more than radio- and television-borne culture to this area. I like being able to get away from it whenever I can!

Love: well water. Slides right down your throat. I also love being able to drive at night with the brights on... I actually miss being able to do that.

Dislike: the cable company won't even lay cable out to my parents' place. It's that far out. Also don't care for seasonal roads.

my hometown is in tornado alley. Lots of ducking and diving every may. It was a great place to grow up.

Likes: lots of sports around town

Dislikes: Town has gotten way to big.

My hometown was small...it was ok..but i don't live there now, nor do i wish to return..for one thing, too many memories..of people long dead.

I love my hometown, their cafe, their theaters and cinemas, some pieces of exquisite architecture influenced by French, and the fresh aroma of art that you can perceive on the air. (L)
