I weighed 171 this morning, and would like to get down to the 160 to 165 range. (Height is 5'9")

I'd say about right, and the best part of it is I don't work out at all, unless you count walking from my car to the place it's parked next to. 😀

I'm definitely overweight...though I'm finally starting to drop some of it. Health problems prevent me from doing anything about real beneficial exercise most of the time.

I've definitely got an hour-glass (sort of) thing going on. I actually weigh more than it looks like (not telling 🙄 ... cheeky monkey!) because I'm pretty active and take dance classes and have a lot of muscle, which weighs more than fat. I'm not a "big girl", I have average bone structure and everything, but I wouldn't mind losing a few extra pounds... Mwah!

-Tink

I'm a little heavy right now, about 111 lbs at 5'4" but will change that in the months to come🙂

Pawz

4Pawz! 111 at 5'4 is NOT heavy! I'd even venture to say it's a tad UNDER-weight! Medically speaking, ideal weight for a person of 5'4 an average bone structure should be 120-130. Darling, I'm sure you're just beauteous. Don't try to lose weight! Or I'll give you the face! 😡 That's as close as it comes on here, but I'll catch you in the chat room... Muahahahaha!! Mwah!
-Cait

With my body type I don't generally go by weight, more on body fat, it's a little higher than I like right now.

Pawz

Hm...

Don't get dangerous now, pawz. Ya don't want to be too skinny...😎

Allow me to get out my measuring tape and step on the scale...
Six feet two inches...199 pounds (give or take an ounce or two). Like amk, I almost never work out, and considering the amount of beer I drink, that's not bad. No beer belly (as the ladies at Mimi's gathering will soon see)...😉

lol thanks for your concern Krokus, but really, I am not underweight, medically speaking I have a body fat of like 20% right now, so I can stand to lose some of that, makes the long distance runs much much easier to endure😉

Pawz

Glad to see I'm not the only one who is not exactly model shaped! lol Seriously tho, with a history of diabetes and heart disease on my mom's side, I had to start seriously doing something about my weight,to keep the familial disease demons @ bay. Due to a thyroid condition, various medications( including anti-depressants) and just plain laziness I'd packed on a substancial amount of weight, and once I realized that it was NOT all gonna come off in a month(no matter what the diet ads say) I resolved to do it the right way. I also got my hubby( who has a bit of a belly and who also has the familila history of diabetes) into eating better and exercising. Though I realize I am never gonna be a perfect sz 6( I'd settle for a sz 10 !LOL) 🙂 I do know that when I look better, my mental state is more upbeat, my energy level is up, and it gives me the strength to deal with the occational failures( ie cheat days or days when I haven't gotten my exercise) and to strive to do better the next day.

To all those on the TMF who are trying to improve their health and body image( no matter WHAT shape they're in)kudos and good luck on your journey
Maggie( who is planning to post some pics of her new self on thr TMF page very soon.. I STILL don;t have a model's body but tis a hell of a lot better than it was last yr)😀

Cait,

I'm the same way... due to a substancial amount of muscle( I work out as well, walk a lot, and work @ a physically demanding job in which I have to lift a lot of weight repeatedly) I've been told I look a lot thinner than my actual weight too.... , now if I can only just get rid of those pesky hips! lol!

Btw let's lobby our various gyms to have "tickle torture" workouts!

😉

Pawz

Can I slap you upside the head dear? lol😉

111 and 5'4.. that's sounds about PERFECT to me( even for the small boned!) . I'm about that height and I would give my 2 ticklish feet, and my eyeteeth to weigh that( my dr says I'd be perfect around 120-140 lbs) , what;s your body type if you don;t mind me asking? I'm short but fairly muscular and large boned.

To emphasize what the other posters have said, DON'T do anything stupid in terms of weight loss, If you wanna do( or have health reasons to do so) do it the healthy way, but from your pic(don't know when it was taken" you're a cutie who looks good the way she it.

Whatever you decide, good luck, but just keep healthy you hear!😀

Maggie

LOL, body type, well, I dunno I guess, I used to lift a lot, so I am still kinda built, but as far as doing anything stupid, I'm not. Everything I do as far as weight loss or gain is under a dr or personal trainer's care. I've been into body building and sports for a long time and studied health and such in the process. I know what is safe and what is not, I eat a healthy balanced diet when I can afford to and get the proper calorie counts and such. I'm not talking a decrease in my food consumption, more of an increase in exercise, all is safe and checked on 🙂

Pawz

Tho I'm no fitness model, I've got a fairly slender build. I do try to work at it with yoga, running, rollerblading, swimming etc. I'll fluctuate up and down a few pounds but have been pretty fortunate not to have had any serious weight gains for the past couple years.

4Pawz, your weight is perfect for your height. I calculated your BMI and it is 19. People who have a BMI of 19 live 10 years longer then people who are average BMI 23-26. I have 21 BMI myself so I still have a few pounds to lose if I want to live to see my 100th birthday.

Alas, I am way too skinny in my opinion. I know it doesn't sound like anything to complain about, but anyone who knows what it's like to be ridiculed and accused of being anorexic will know how I feel. Truth is, I've developed a distaste for the models that encourage being like this on purpose. It's people like that who make a thin body associated with mental illness and self-hatred. Finally I just said to hell with it, I am happy with my body, and if they want to criticise me for being scrawny they can do it without me listening. And if some day I am 70 lbs overweight I will still love my body, because it's mine and nobody else's. Losing weight or gaining it does nothing if you do not find yourself beautiful as is to start with. I just think it's a tragedy that anyone should have to alter their body in order to see their own beauty.

I think 4Pawz hit it on the head, it's % body fat

not weight that should guide you. Mesomorphs (naturally muscular people) will have higher BMIs at a given height than someone of a healthy weight who isn't overly muscular. All too often I'm afraid, overweight people use the "muscle" excuse to justify staying at an overweight condition. If it giggles when you walk, it ain't muscle. That said, you can go too far the otherway. But for most of us, we tend to carry too many rather than too few pounds. I'm fine at 6' and 170.
