As most folks have already heard, Geocities will be shutting down operations Oct. 26th. This will mean an end to a number of old TK sites still housed there. I'm putting together a little farewell sendoff article for the Focus on Community section of my site. I thought it might be cool to get thoughts from others to ad in. So...

What tickle sites do you remember enjoying on Geocities? Did you ever have a site of your own hosted by them...tk or not? What did you think of them?

Please share your thoughts!

For those who've commented about having to grab things before they close...

I've saved every tk site I know of in its entirety and will be putting those that are not relocated up in archive form in coming weeks. So, if you don't catch them before they close down, don't worry. You'll still be able to access them by following the links in our Directories.

I recently tried to get on Geocities to revisit some tickling sites I found years back. Of course, this is no longer possible. Some of the best stuff seemed to be on Geocities, so I am disappointed. Thankfully, there is still Yahoo Groups, which has a lot of good stuff. Let's hope that's not next. . .
Oh, and thanks for saving the sites -- I hope this community stays up for a long time, too 🙂

IronMaidenOwns... They give an answer to why they're closing and other questions here.... http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/geocities/close/close-01.html

TheGodfeather... Several of the old time sites are archived on the Way Back Machine. If you go to the Closed Sites Listings on TK-411, those old closed that are saved in total or in part are linked to the search results there. This includes sites originally on Geocities and on other servers as well.

This is bullshit. My favorite Celebrity Tickling Story website was on Geocities. I was wondering why I couldn't pull up any of the stories when I visited yesterday. Now, I know why.

Which one was it, NMK? If it's one of those that I managed to save, you'll see it again in my site archives down the road.

Nah. You don't owe me anything. The enjoyment of those who make use of the site is my reward. 😉

Yeah I just found out about it last night, 2 days after the deadline and I had quite a few files on a geocities file manager I never backed up....😛issed

Yeah. That's true for several folks, CC. Unfortunately, I only saved sites and didn't have URLs for file collections, or I'd have saved them as well. They really should have done a mass mailing to all who used their services.

I think it's terrible. Yahoo Pagebuilder was the only tool for building websites that I actually liked! I didn't like what I saw of Frontpage, Dreamweaver, or any free online sites (besides Geocities).

I didn't (and still don't) like many of the options for web authoring...either web based or DLable...including the one on Geocities. Early on, I found AOL Press. Though it has definate limitations and no longer has tech support, it's very easy to use. That's what I use for my sites. Eventually, I suppose I'll find something else. But, until it no longer works for my needs, I'll likely keep using it.
