This is incorrect information. I actually have and made a sticky thread in my forum here talking about it, when it happened.
The group remains, but the account I used to run it was deleted, and so I was locked out of my own group (in other words, they only got the job half-done and only did that much because popularity of the group grew. This explains why anyone having wanted to join was not able to (as I had the group set to allow only those I approved). As I cannot approve them, they cannot be members.
Its all as well for me though. Yahoo groups (not yahoo itself) were dragging my potential for sharing my art down and weren't giving me the results I would have wanted. The group was very successful, but I'm actually glad what happened happened because it allowed me to focus more of my interests and efforts into Deviantart (and other art sites), which, at the time, I was settling into.
So, in retrospect, thank you Yahoo. It was a blessing in disguise. Actually, I got a very good, long-lasting run out of that group, and while those among us were complaining and reporting that their groups were being closed, mine was only ever dealt with until much, MUCH later in the game, years even. So, its not like it was an abortion of my group or anything. LOL
On topic, I don't think YouTube is getting worse by means of the service itself (in fact, its more user-friendly, more streamlined, and easier to navigate and find what you want). It is only in bias of not finding what one wants (or finding out that it is restricted) that one says things are going downhill. Everything I ever want to see is there...but then again theres no crackdown on that type of general content.
I understand your frustrations though, people. If a pleasure (guilty or not) was being denied me just for the sake of political correctness, I might not be as indifferent as I am on the matter.
