I know there were a few other threads regarding zombie movies, but this isn't about a movie.

I was wondering if any of the resident zombie fans here saw AMC's new series, "The Walking Dead", which is based on the comic series of the same name?

It premiered Halloween night, but since there was work the next day, I couldn't see it. I saw the repeat tonight, and really liked it. I was surprised with the gore that was in the episode.

Any one catch it, and what did you think?

i liked it, it had a cinematic look to it and a more "realistic" aproach then most zombie movies. i was a bit surprised at the gore with the first 5 min when the main character kills the first zombie but then i got used to it. but all in all its a pretty good show

i thought it was AMAZING!!!!! it is definitely a worth-while series. i'm going to record every episode.

I think it'll be pretty good. It had a fairly slow start, but being a mini series I think it had enough excitement to keep the viewers interested until the next episode. It really picked up at the end. Sadly, at this point it looks like it'll have a pretty generic storyline unless they really twist things around from how it has been set up so far. Production quality is top notch. Those zombies look awesome.

Just a note to any who missed it. AMC has the full episode up to watch on their website.

I like it as far as a zombie series goes, too bad it didn,t come on earlier here. I,ve missed many episodes of True Blood, so I,ll need to catch the reruns and I wish that they would bring back Carnivale and give it an appropriate ending, instead of leaving it the way they did, that was disappointing.

So I take it these zombies are the classic slow moving shoot em in the head type? I gotta say I didn't like the idea of fast moving zombies. Not only does it NOT MAKE ANY SENSE but it makes the story too much like a slasher horror flick.

That is correct....they are the shuffling, slow-moving zombies like the classic Romero films.

I have to agree with you, I don't like the fast moving zombies.

I didn't get to watch it and I can't remember the name of it but there was a zombie film made a few years ago that took it a step beyond fast zombies. I think I saw photos of it in Fangoria. The zombies would actually explode out of the graves and hit the ground running. It was the most ridiculous thing I had seen in a while. I really wanted to see it just because it was so bad.

Last night's episode, "Guts", was pretty good. Definitely something of an innovation of sneaking past zombies. At least I haven't seen a film that uses that method yet.

It was awesome! Yeah it totally ripped of "28 Days Later" at first but then everything's been done to death already in other zombie movies. So there's nothing new but it's done extremely well. The second episode was even better.

So now I'm hooked on 2 Zombie-Survival epics; "Walking Dead" and "We're Alive" which is an audio series on the web (the first few episodes are shaky but it really gets good later on)

Personally I'd like to see a series entitled "After the Plague". The setting would be about a group of people haphazardly assemble on a military base in NY state 6 months after a super plague (developed by an African warlord's fiefdom) is semi-accidentally released and ends up killing (over the course of the next 6 months) 98% of the world's population. The adult survivors on the base (about 123 people [including children]), would include a male gay liberal, a staunch male member of the Christian right, a female episcopal priest, a male Buddhist monk, a male follower of Islam, a lesbian burlesque dancer, an outdoor woodsman, an elderly farmer, a female convicted drug user, a male convict wrongly imprisoned for a crime he did not commit, and one the last members of the American military. The story would be of their struggles (in surviving what the world has become as well as surviving one another).

I personally like this series. It should've come sooner, in my honest opinion.

"Tell it to the Frogs" really started to heat things up a bit last night. I think we could all see where the hacksaw issue with Merle was going to go way in advance though.

I have to check my recording but it seems like I heard them say in the preview that there are only 3 more episodes to go. I thought this thing would run longer than that. I'll have to confirm that as soon as I get a chance to dig through the video in my MythTV.

the show is based on a hit graphic novel. the first episode was awesome! too bad i don't get the channel and the episodes, i can't seem to find online. sad... :cry

I'm recording it all digitally. I could at some point make it possible to find it online.

The walking dead is a better with zombies than most zombie movies are. Bold, exciting, gory, scary.... Truly a work of art for any zombie aficionado. If you like zombies and haven't seen it, you're really missing out! 😀

GWC Podcast said "Walking Dead" has been approved for a second season already- after just 2 episodes!!!! (yeah I'm a week behind the world at large)

Zombies vs sherrifs, rednecks, etc is nothing new but they do it EXTREMELY well on this show.

The "Vatos" episode has some good twists to it. It had a kind of odd feel to it though. I still think the pacing is something that is holding this series back. I have a feeling when Ep.6 ends we'll all be wondering what happens regarding every single situation. I don't think anything at all will be resolved by the end of the first season. I could be wrong though.

Either way this is a hell of a lot better than a SyFy original.

Guess what- it wasn't all resolved by episode 6. I don't like the way the season ended, seems more like a mid-season finale to me.

On the bright side, I've recently discovered "The Dead" zombie action figures by Sideshow toys (no relation to the TV show)- got one for Xmas. They're expensive ($75-$89 new, with earlier collectible ones going for up to $600!) but they're the most awesome zombie figures I've ever seen....

Yeah I had a feeling it would end poorly. I hope they pick things up in the second season. At this point I have to debate whether it's really worth watching. It seems like they have some good ideas for the series but they just aren't executing them well. Things get a little too boring.

I've heard rumor that it may be October again before Season 2 comes out. I guess they want to time this with Halloween.

Well, I was hoping for sooner, but at least they'll take their time and do things right (hopefully). I thought the first season was terrific.
