It's amazing to believe.. but.. 25 years ago today, I entered Adelphi University in Garden City NY, as a freshman, for four days of freshman orientation.
I had been there already, because.. with permission of the Dean, I was allowed to take two summer classes before the fall semester started. I lived in a dorm with a few other people who were also taking classes.
Orientation was.. interesting.. Someone said it was going to be four days of one big party. Actually.. it was some activities.. some lectures, and parties at night, followed by the "Matriculation Ceremony", which was one of the most boring experiences in my entire four years there. We had to listen to the college president, who was from Greece, and had a thick accent.. babble on for an hour, about,.. bullshit.. while we sat in our "Matriculation outfits".
I can't believe it's been 25 years since that week. I was a scrawny underweight 18 year old then, and now I'm a fat.. middle aged man.
Seriously,.. it was the beginning of the best four years of my life.
