Last night, my best friend and I were talking about my mom. He and I had been friends since my freshman year of high school. He loved my mom as did his family.
He was having a dilemma however. His first born was named my God daughter after her birth. The same weekend of my moms memorial, is her sweet sixteen party. My friend was torn because he wanted to be there for my moms memorial, yet he had promised his daughter thy would have a nice party and a fun weekend.
I told him that he needed to keep his plans with his daughter. You only get one sweet sixteen. Then came a kicker that made me swell with pride.
His daughter at this point had heard the conversation and put her hand on her dads shoulder. She said, "For every life there is a death. Grandma DeBarr was there when I was born. She held me. She loved me. Dad, I can have a sweet sixteen party when I get back. We need to be there for Uncle Tom and Grandpa DeBarr."
I was so moved. I just figured I would share that with you all. She has grown into quite a sweet young lady. My mom would be so proud.
