So, it's been a while but here's part two. Enjoy, Folks! 😀
First of all, a quick recap;
Touchdown at around 5.30pm, central time. Unease begins to kick in. I thought for some reason that I would be the cool, calm and collected gentleman that I am on the forum, in real life. Not so. Through no concious effort, I have become a bundle of nerves. After phoning Gin (Euphoricy) and letting her know that I've arrived. I settle down to watch, and wait. And try to breathe normally.
As I mentioned before, it's the waiting that gets to me.
So, here I am. Lousiville, Kentucky, United States of America. The furthest west I have ever travelled. And it's hot. About 70 farenheit, whatever that means (I never managed to get used to the bizarre method of temperature measurement used in the land of the free).
I'm excited about meeting Gin. After speaking online with her for several months, I've gotten to know her fairly well, and she's full of win (most of the time - I shall be documenting instances where this was not the case 😉 ). After a few minutes, her sexy Ford focus pulls up to the pick-up point. After gratuitous noises of excitedness and some hugs (apparently I move from side to side when I hug), we load my stuff into her car, and drive off along the interstate.
The drive is intense. First of all, Gin was driving on the wrong side of the road. That's fucking scary in and of itself. Combine that with the fact that she apparently has a deathwish whilst she's at the wheel; especially when we come to junctions.
It doesn't feel as strange talking to Gin in real life as I thought it would; well, it's still strange, and apparently shows. I'm rather an animated person at the best of times, but according to her I've got this nervous energy which I believe is exacerbated by my actual nervousness. Not that it makes much difference. There's no polite small-talk between us; we know each other well enough to just leap into conversations of epic proportions.
Before we stop off at her place, we go and grab burritos. It pains Gin when I tell her that I've never had a burrito before, as we wait in line to order our food. At some point in this rather large queue, Gin's hands "accidentally" goose my sides; I'm twitchy at the best of times, but that makes me squeak and jump in the air. Way to come across all stiff upper lip...
They say that our respective great nations are separated by two things; the Atlantic, and a common language. The latter is made exceedingly apparent as the poor girl at the checkout cannot understand a word I say, which makes me panic.
After that fiasco, we sit down and people-watch whilst munching on burritos and nachos. After spotting a particularly amusing man-woman-thing on a bicycle, we finish up and I start to leave. Without getting a refill for my coke. This concept is completely new to me, and it is one of the things I will forever cherish about the United States. Free refills? Awesome. 😀
Post coke-refills, we drive back to Gin's apartment (which has no air-con for some reason), and I am introduced to her feline roommate, Loki. I've usually got a love-hate relationship with cats; I'm good with animals, but not when they try and tear my face off. Loki, however, is rather affectionate 😀
