I was in the garage earlier today and some American couple were over at the car hire counter trying to hire a car. I didn't hear the whole conversation but at some point the woman said "Oh, you know what? I don't think I can drive a stick". The following image appeared in my head:
I then sniggered very loudly, people looked at me, and I had to pretend I'd sneezed.
My question is, what the fuck is wrong with calling it a manual? Why is it a "stick"? An automatic has a "stick" too, and you "shift" with it; does that stick not count because it has a handle on top of it?
Americans scare me sometimes.
