Hopefully a benign blog thread.. A continuation of the thread in the main forum.
Of course, with it being April 4th, something bad had to happen today, and it did..
My Acer laptop, which I had bought at the end of the long summer in NJ in 2011, and which had been having problems for a long time, finally crashed early this morning,
I went to Staples, and .. got an HP 15.6 notebook.
I was informed by the guy who sold it to me, that almost four years is a good life for a notebook. The first desktop I had to get online lasted me from 2002 to 2011.
No major surprises came with this laptop. Oh, the consumer rating on Staples site, seemed much higher than on some other sites. One of the sites claimed that HP is not a good computer. Hopefully they will be wrong.
Which brings me to an issue I hadn't experienced before.
The guy who sold me the computer.. informed me that there are places which buy computer parts.
My friend Barney went with me to buy the computer. The sales guy and Barney were talking, and supposedly a number of $100, came up as the price I could get for the computer parts.
I went to a site called sell computer parts for cash.com or something like that. It said something like ship us your old computer parts, we give you cash. It also said about them paying shipping costs, insurance etc etc.
Such makes me wonder about how much I could actually get for the old computer.
It seemed to me that the theme was almost.. forgive the expression, not to be crude like a computer "Chop Shop" where they pay cash for old computers, and take them apart to use the parts for other computers.
Knowing how many people are so technically savvy on this site, having owned and built sites themselves,,. my question is.. has anyone ever done this, and do they usually pay good money for old computer parts, or is it usually pennies, small dollar amounts, etc.
Any advice/insight would be appreciated.
Thanks.
