As a guy I am most likely screwed. and I doubt anyone would read this

I thought this was a very interesting blog.

A lot of people have a violent nature, and it's what you choose to do with that that defines you. There's a need in every civilization for people who are strong enough to stop bad men from doing whatever they want.

There was a scene in Deadwood that your story reminds me of.

Seth Bullock, a retired Marshall who's trying to avoid putting on a badge again, beats a man almost to death after he threatens to destroy his own daughter's life forever. Then he feels guilty about it, and asks a general passing through Deadwood to take the beaten man to safety. During the conversation, the general says to Bullock "In a town where the sheriff can be bought for bacon grease, a man, a former marshall, who understands the dangers of his own temperament might consider serving his fellows. We all have bloody thoughts."​
