Autumn is the favorite season of many, and I am no exception to that. Even so, there's quite a bit of negatives that come with it for me, waves of nearly debilitating allergies and unmanageable storms of leaves in my yard to name a few, yet it remains my favorite. It's beauty is much like the roses found early in its season: alive with complex, alluring aroma and transfixing folds of color and patterns that dominate the senses with pleasure, but not without its rigid unforgiving thorns to remind that, while it loves to be admired, its an independent force of nature not to be taken for granted.
Sometimes people analogize seasons to stages of life, from the youthful years of spring to their final years of winter in old age. I do appreciate the metaphor, and the color and grace it grants the full stretch of the aging process, but I personally think of people in relation to seasons in a very different way, especially as it relates to women and my connection to them through romance, sexuality, and kink. When I think of attributes of women that remind me of the seasons, I most often think of their behaviors, personalities, aesthetics, and preferences. Much like the multitude of personality type systems available, such as Myers-Briggs, Enneagram, and so on, viewing people through the lens of seasonal traits is not granular enough to capture the full spectrum and beauty of the individual. However, classification and categorization helps some people view complexity in a new light through different filters and from new angles. For me, this is just another way to appreciate the beauty and vibrancy that women bring to my world.
When I think of the girls of spring, I think of those that have a fresh personality, often preferring soft, bright colors, and possessing a sweet and caring attitude layered with shy optimism. Girls of summer often come with a warmer, more direct attitude, with an appreciation for bolder, warmer colors. They radiate a shining extraverted smile and eyes that can burn a hole through you with intention. The introverted girls of winter often prefer black, grey, white, blue, and silver, but appreciate most other colors as compliments. They can feel cold and distant to those outside of their inner circle of trust, though their carefully guarded emotions often hide an extremely warm heart.
While I love all of those for their unique energy and beauty, there's a special place in my heart for autumn girls. They have some of the best qualities of girls of all the seasons. They tend to favor a color palette of rich, warm colors, sometimes accented with various earthy hues. They can have an exciting complexity to their character, weaving between the warm directness of summer and the cautious chill of winter, though often presenting themselves as shy and quiet. They come with a bit of mystery and are hard to figure out, but the pursuit of understanding them feels rewarding and enriching.
My own wonderful, loving wife is an autumn girl. I can't think of the season without thinking of her. She's full of a beautiful, rich personality that somehow always feels cozy and familiar, but that simultaneously keeps me guessing. Much like preparing for a mid-autumn day, there's always a question as to whether she'll be cool and cozy, or warm and energized. Her love of the season itself further highlights her beautiful characteristics. I love watching her come alive as the leaves change and her cravings for pumpkin and nutmeg are heightened. I love that her soul is beaming with joy at simply sipping a warm, spiced latte while being cuddled and lightly tickled under a fuzzy blanket. In that state, I could easily drift to sleep as quiet comfort takes hold, if not for my consciousness being recaptured by her occasional playful pinches, nudges, and whips of her hair in my face to remind me that she is here for deserved attention. And though her love of autumn brings the most out of her, I enjoy her beautiful spirit throughout the year. Through every season onward into forever, she'll always be my little autumn girl.
Do you know someone whose characteristics match one of the seasons? What about you? If so, I'd like to know. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful autumn!
