Well if you are meeting someone online, where the dating and fetish sites are basically a sausage vest, all the sausages vying for the attention of the same handful of ladies, yeah you're gonna have to prove you're not a nutcase, just because of the context in which you're trying to meet someone.

Standards do go up as you get older because when you're young, you're happy just to have a companion at all. That's why people spend their time trying to date someone that will probably treat them like shit. Or they stay with someone that already does.

And no, sometimes love is not enough.

I disagree. I think Love is enough, if you want something bad enough. The true key is compromise and communication. Of course, there are times that people really do not get along. True, standards go WAY up when you get older, unfortunately. Perhaps that's because we've had a bit of real dating experiences under our belt, and are now extremely picky over the type of partner that we want.
