A Brief Introduction

I've never been the type of person to express my thoughts to the public, unless asked to - so in all my years of being part of the TMF, I've always been rather shy about expressing my personal views and feelings. Even now, I'm having a bit of difficulty putting words down, even though I know the gist of what I want to say. Enough about that, though - I'm here now and I hope to semi-regularly post and respond to other peoples' blogs. I do love the community here and everyone in it.

Just to give a (very small) bit of background about me - I'm 22, I've been a TMFer for four years and I've been into tickling for as long as I can remember - from being a tickling terror in school to discovering others with a same view online. It's a small, but essential, part of who I am - I can't imagine life without being incredibly into tickling, and I wouldn't want to be that way either. Outside of this (publicly) secret part of my life, though, I'm in university, majoring in chemical engineering, which takes up a big chunk of my time, both in class and doing related things. Outside of that, in whatever free time I have, I like to play the violin, play the odd video game, read some books, go biking, or just talk to people. I think I'm a pretty normal guy, all in all! Slightly nerdy, but that comes with the territory. Hey, if anyone has a math question or anything like that, for whatever reason, PM me. I'm happy to help.

Writing Reboot

Once upon a time, I used to write tickling stories. Years ago, in fact - and for some reason, I stopped. Come to think of it, I think there's some ancient story of mine here up on the TMF still - one that I'm entirely ashamed of because of how old it is at this point, and how much I think I've improved as a writer since. I was 18 then! I really, really, really want to start writing again - not aiming to please anyone in particular, just doing it for myself, as some small way to contribute in the same way so many others do. There are so many writers that post here that I admire - I don't want to name them, for fear of leaving anyone out - and it's with a growing sense of dissatisfaction with myself that I haven't been able to produce anything for such a long time.

I want to write something again. Start simple. Stop making plans for a 30-part epic saga with 50 different characters! That's the biggest hurdle for me whenever starting something new like this - making things too complicated off the start. I've been spending too much time thinking of big, epic, fantasy worlds lately - Westeros from the Song of Ice and Fire series, and Azeroth from Warcraft - and that throws my perspective off. Speaking of which, if anyone hasn't read Song of Ice and Fire, and has a taste for fantasy... I highly recommend it, or watching the excellent Game of Thrones TV series.

Motivation

My biggest problem once I start writing is finishing what I've started. I must have a half-dozen stories that I've started, gotten less than 500 words into, and abandoned. Without an outside motivating factor, such as a deadline... it's hard for me to just write, like that. Argh, it's really frustrating. I want to make some kind of pledge to write a story every month and update this blog once every couple weeks. Maybe I'll do that.

What do you do to keep yourself motivated for things that you don't -have- to do, but want to?

I have to ask, with no disrespect intended: with all the white knights and social invalids around here, why are you here?

Because a rather minute grouping of individuals can be put on a complete mute. The commentary is directed at a group of maybe twenty or so people, maximum. I know there are how many other thousands of members of this forum which completely counterbalance them. Personally, I don't think I feel like leaving because of the influence of a rather minuscule group of plastic individuals.

I can see that, good point. Having said that, if they're so miniscule why take the time to post insulting them or acknowledging them at all?

There is probably some truth to that. Though I imagine a blog that gets, what, thirty or so views each outing is not exactly the same as posting something big on the forum.
