So after finding TMF and other sites with other people interested in tickling, I was eager to start examining other aspects of BDSM and even more eager to try my hand at some of the things that I was reading about. I started corresponding with Myriads about Dom/sub exchanges and he helped me solidify my perception of why as a self-sufficient woman I would fall into a submissive role more easily. He was a sounding board when I had no one else I could discuss such novel ideas with - and he provided great insight to me at this turning point in my life.
I started chatting with some of the members here and those I met on yahoo. It turns out there were several who lived not too far away. I met a few for some one on one sessions - every single one of these showed respect and I count these early positive experiences as the most influential in my future choices.
By 2002, I had chatted and met with a few men from TMF and other sites. But I encountered someone in the chat one night who intrigued me. He was attending a gathering on the west coast. He encouraged me to check out upcoming gatherings - specifically NEST - which was coming up in a few months. I'd never gone to something so large scale before and I wasn't sure if I was ready to go to something so "public" - but I did think it would be worthwhile to meet this gentleman. I was established at a veterinary clinic where I could take the time off and could save enough to afford the airfare/hotel costs. I had arranged with my mom to refinance the house and had paid off my vet school debts (thankfully I had none from undergrad). So I also had the benefit of an income tax refund which would help me pay for travel expenses.
Well, needless to say, I did attend my first NEST. I met some wonderful folks, including the gentleman who originally inspired me to go to Philadelphia. I also met a nice Dom/ler who called me when I got back home. We dated for about two years, attending two more NEST's together before going our separate ways. After tasting some of the Dom/sub life (we even went to a club in NYC one time when I visited him), I decided to pursue this other aspect as diligently as I had pursued tickling. So I posted on alt.com. And...well, I'll share the results in my next segment.
