Displaced

I'm sitting in the living room of my friends, my puppies snuggled up next to me. All of my belongings are in a trailer in the driveway. I'm scheduled to close on my new house on Friday. It's been a huge hassle to get this far, and I can't wait to just own the place and move in. When it rains, though, it really pours.

Things at work just aren't going very well. I've been with the same company for almost five years now. When I moved to NH, I took a new position in my company's Massachusetts office. However, it wasn't always part of my company. They were a separate company, and we acquired them in 2007. My new boss here has treated me very differently from everyone else, and I'm just now starting to suspect that it's because I came from the parent office. Just over a week ago, she threatened my job, with bogus accusations that I haven't created the process she wanted me to create. She's taken micro-managing to the nth degree - something I'm just plain not used to.

I've got a call scheduled tomorrow morning with my most recent boss (a senior VP) at the home office. He's amazing, and I'm hoping he can give me some advice. Then Tuesday I've got another call scheduled with my very first boss at the company. I've given him the reader's digest version of what's going on, and I'm going to talk to him about taking on additional duties at my current office, but report to him remotely. I'm not sure if anything will come of it, but at the very least I'm hoping to get some advice on handling this awkward situation. I don't like the feeling of dreading going to work. And I don't like feeling uneasy about how long I'll have my job (although it's certainly a common ailment in this economy).

Being a grownup is so scary sometimes.
