Mods, please allow this frustrated, sick Braves fan a bit of a rant in my blog. It is after all , "only about baseball"
As baseball fans like my good friend milagros317 are aware, just a few days ago, the Atlanta Braves held a nice eight game cushion in the NL East that seemed to be growing every day.
While it is only mid May, and there are over 100 games left.
Then, disaster struck, but it was unfortunate, and happens in baseball
Braves ace starting pitcher Max Fried suffered a serious injury, and will be out "At least two months"
Such is a big blow to the Braves.
Fortunately, it is only May, and there is a wonderful young man named Spencer Strider pitching lights out for the Braves so far in 2023,
Mister Strider pitched another fantastic game last night for the Braves, only to be deprived of a win when none other than AJ Minter messed things up in the late innings.
Today, it happened again.
Another very nicely pitched game by a starting pitcher for the Braves
This afternoon in the seventh inning, said "suspect" AJ Minter gave up two runs, and was charged with his fifth loss of a season, a very large number for a relief pitcher in any season over 162 games, let alone in Mid May.
ERA. Earned Run Average. The lower it is, the better it is for a guy and the team he is pitching for.
Most late inning pitchers, have ERA's much lower than 3, usually far lower than that.
AJ Minter's ERA after today's game, over eight runs a game, along with the five losses that he is directly charged with, not to mention the times he gave up runs charged to other pitchers than he is supposed to hold.
Many Braves feel that Mister Minter should be sent to the minor leagues. I believe he still has options left.
With Fried's absence, and it being only mid May, the Braves must win any game they can, and cannot keep blowing leads in the late innings like the last two in Toronto.
Minter, in spite of a habit of being wild, has pitched well in the past. I for one hope he can go somewhere like the minor leagues for a while, to get his pitching ironed out.
If not, and they keep bringing him into games such as the last two that he lost, the Braves ever shrinking lead in the NL East , will be going, going, gone,
To a team like "The Hated Mets"
Mitch's favorite saying for Mitch's least favorite team, the New York Mets.
Such as my friend milagros calls the SF Giants his "Hated Jints"
Baseball rant over.
Happy Mother's Day to all forum mothers, and anyone lucky enough to still have their mother with them.
As for Mitch, as my signature shows, I lost my beloved mother to Cancer in 2012.
I hope that she is happy in Heaven with my recently departed Aunt Eileen, who was taken in January, and all of our relatives we lost before them.
