It's never easy letting go of a friend. If it was then you weren't friends to begin with. I've been friends with Tammy for nearly a decade. I can't say that we've been close friends, but we hung out often with our group of friends and we did a lot of things together. Birthdays, dances, parties, whatever. 🙂
I'm not sure if she's always been this way and I was just blind to it or if she's changed this much over the years and I've just not noticed, but she's not the same person I once knew.
After we graduated, we kind of drifted apart a bit so we weren't as close as we had been in school, but I still considered her a friend. Over the past year I've heard some very unflattering rumors and stories about things she has done. Now we live in a very small community. If you want to keep your secrets, you have to be very, very discreet. Otherwise, everyone and their mother will know what you're doing. 😱
Many of the stories I've heard have been second hand, but it's the same stories told by different people. People who are close to her and people who had more contact with her than I did. The stories made me wondered, but I took them with a grain of salt because she was my friend.
Then I heard about how she was spreading lies about a coworker of mine, Nikki, and her SO, Junior. The words that Tammy says contradicts the actions that Nikki does. Primarily Tammy has been talking about how Nikki and Junior had wrecked the trailer house that they rented from her parents. Yet, having worked with Nikki for nearly two years and seeing how hard she works when doing duties (which involves cleaning the store), it cancels out much of what Tammy says.
Now I've come to realize that I don't think I can be friends with Tammy anymore. She had stopped by the store while I was working the other night and she was telling the same old stories with new ones that I know are not true. I called her out on what she was saying, but she had more stories that were just that... more stories. Some that were straight out lies, but it was like she didn't care, only what she wanted people to know.
She's not the same person I once knew. Maybe I never knew her at all. All I know is that she's not the kind of person I want to be friends with. To spread such malicious gossip without proof is a quality I do not desire in a friend. So it's time to distance myself from her and eventually cut ties with her. It's really hard because we've been friends for so long. 🙁
