So first off let me say that I was raised with the idea that no matter what family always comes first.
The summer of junior year going into to senior year was when my grandpa(My dad's dad) was starting to slow down. Everyone in my family could tell he probably wouldn't be around much longer. The more my senior year progressed, the slower my grandpa was getting. I found out he had prostate cancer. He had always kept his health issues very private. I was the youngest granddaughter and at the time I was single. I remember the day I was in my Grandma's kitchen during Christmas break senior year and I promised her if grandpa was put in a nursing home or the worst happened I wouldn't let her be alone.
I actually didn't graduate on time. I had gotten an email a month before graduation that I had not taken two geneds. I thankfully was able to do summer school at Tidewater Community College. I decided to live with my sister and bro in law. They at the time had a house in VA Beach. While I was living in VA Beach I would call my dad and ask about grandpa. He would say he was getting weaker and weaker. I finally graduated from Shenandoah University summer 2011 with a Vocal Performance degree.
My sis and bro in law had been wanting to be in northern va for a long time. My Bro in law finally got a job up there in Nov. 2011. I would sadly have to leave Va Beach in Dec., but I had already felt my place was at home with my grandma.
It was Dec. when my grandpa's health took a turn for the worst. He was put in the hospital. He had an infection that they sadly just couldn't seem to control. He died on Dec. 20th. His lungs filled up with fluids and he drowned. His death was so sudden and shocking. His health had literally taken a 180 over night the week before he died. My gosh just two weeks before he had been in the hospital he was still driving.
I kept my promise to my grandma and I now live with her. I couldn't bear the thought of my grandma living in her house alone. I work in a grocery store as a cashier. The singing was sadly put on hold. The singing I mostly do now is lead on Rock Band. I would like to try to find a voice teacher, but so far I haven't had much luck.
