I went into my roommate's room and asked him what he was doing, and he said, "watching harry potter five". I asked, "you want to go for a run?" to which he replied "sure". if he had told me no, I don't think I would have gone for a run.
I don't like running, it is probably my least favorite form of exercise. "lifting weights" is probably the only form of exercise that can compare to the dullness and lack of fun as running. if it weren't for sports, I'd probably never exercise. I would just drift into listlessness. I am very competitive, which may be some of the motivation for me to play sports. thank God for that, otherwise I don't know what would motivate me to do well or work hard at the things I do and sports I play.
I am not sure if it is the competitive nature of sports or the social aspect of sports that brings me to enjoy them and get off my ass so that I can exercise. after tonight's run, I believe that the social aspect is extremely influential in my reasoning for playing sports. I could sit down and play Madden 09 for an hour or two. but unless I had someone else to play with, I'd get bored, and I'm sure there are many other people who, like me, would rather put the controller down and play whatever sport outside for twice as long.
by the way I have always hated the term/phrase "working out". it doesn't really make sense to me. but I believe I have attached a stigma to that phrase with all of the huge bodybuilders that go to the same gym I do. when they say it, I cringe because I don't ever want to be considered one of them. it is fine for them, believe me I'm not bashing anyone who really likes lifting weights, I just wouldn't associate myself with them because we are not the same. I don't want to get any bigger. I like my size. maybe that's our difference, I don't know.
one productive thing that you may or may not get out of this blog is a possible NEST basketball game. if we can find an open court somewhere. I'm sure some of us would enjoy a little physical activity in addition to any other physical activity that may be going on. I'll make it more apparent when I'm there if anyone wants to play pickup. oh and I'm 5'8 so I'm not trying to hustle anyone. just figured I should mention it. one more thing to bring us closer together.
