As most who know me are aware, I'm Jewish. I have never considered myself religious, as I didn't have a bar mitzvah, and I never go to temple.
My maternal grandfather, in spite of having a bar mitzvah, was not a religious man. He believed in God as a scientific figure that controlled the universe, instead of as a religious one. For a long time, I shared that belief, but, I think my mom's cancer diagnosis changed my perspective.
In the last two weeks, I have been praying, out loud, to God, at least once a day, and sometimes more. I pray for my mom's successful treatment, and health, and for Him to give me strength, as I endure this battle with her.
My question is: Do people ever find God and become more religious when they are facing a serious life or death crisis? I will be interested to hear thoughts on this.
