As of June, a major part of my life will cease to be - studentdom will have breathed it's last, and I'll be out into the wide blue yonder.
I realised quite early on that I didn't want a run-of-the-mill job, where I'd be stuck at a computer 9-5.
One thing that has always been at the back of my mind was to work in a field which has interested me since I was about 5 years old - aerospace. Everything to do with aeroplanes fascinates me - I'm looking forward to NEST, not just because I get to meet loads of fantastic people, but also because I LOVE flying on planes. And I want to learn to fly them.
Thing is, I've got no capital at the moment to take lessons, though I've manned a few hours in light aircraft before. I could go on a training course, but I feel like I need a bit more guidance and direction.
To that end, I plan on getting a LOT healthier in the coming year (stopping smoking, building up a lot more muscle and stamina), and enlisting with the Royal Air Force as a Pilot.
I'd be with them for the better part of 2 decades, assuming I am permitted to fly, and it's a surefire way of landing employment as a commercial pilot once I leave the military.
After thinking about this for a few months, and speaking to my folks about it, I can't imagine a long-term job that I would love more than flying planes.
Wish me luck - I gotta go grow some wings...
