The plug line said this, “Make Xanga safe 4 kids”. What it’s proposing is a mandatory rating button at the bottom of the editor. One would have to rate all of one’s entries. What bothers me is, the suggestion also states, “There should also be restrictions put on those, found in violation, like a ticket ?times & you get a permanent EX.” I have no idea what the fuck they’re trying to say, and what a “permanent EX” is, but I assume it has something to do with being removed from Xanga for failing to rate your entries too many times.
First and foremost, I would like to say to the person who proposed this, and everyone who supports it, go FUCK yourselves. I’m tired of fucknuts like you, trying to censor the world because you want to shelter your freaking brats from reality. If you don’t want your children exposed to other people’s free expression, keep them locked in your house. Wow, sounds abusive, doesn’t it? Hey, what the hell do you think you’re doing to everybody with functional vocal chords, everyone who can type, everyone who can express themselves in any way? You want to be an oppressive asshole, keep it within your jurisdiction. The rest of the world does not and should not have to bend over backwards to meet your standards for what is appropriate. Frankly, the fact that you’d like to see people restrcited or kicked off a site for not helping you keep your offspring repressed and ignorant, is god damn scary. Zeig heil, mein fuhrer.
Freedom requires tolerance. “It’s offensive” is never, NEVER a good reason to stop people from saying and doing what they want. I’m sorry, but you need a better reason than that. Anything can be considered offensive, it’s a matter of personal preference. If you value your freedom, you have to tolerate others who exercise theirs. What’s to stop others from selecting something you do, on a regular basis, and deeming it offensive? From suddenly and arbitrarily oppressing you, on the grounds that “We don’t want our kids exposed to that!”? How about instead of hiding your children from the real world, trying to create the illusion that it doesn’t exist, raise them well and teach them appropriate reactions to it? Be productive, not destructive.
Moreover, do you honestly feel that’s going to be an effective means for dealing with this “problem” you perceive. Let’s say your little For-The-Children blitzkrieg goes over, and after forgetting to rate a few entries, I get kicked out. What, then, is stopping me from signing up with a new username, and going about my business?
It’s not that it would be an undue strain, it’s just the principle of the matter. Censorship is oppression, and forced consideration is rather hypocritical.
