Wow, it feels like I haven't blogged in forever. Guess I've just been too excited over going to college and looking at all the fun groups I look forward to being a part of that I've neglected my dear forum! 😱 I also admit to stalking the IU LGBT group's Facebook page to see how many ladies are in it compared to gay men (who tend to outnumber the lesbians and bi girls at about 4 to 1).
Anyway, last weekend was pretty eventful for me. I spent most of it doing volunteer work for my LGBT youth group. The usual stuff like making safe sex kits and putting inserts in the newsletters.
OH, but the highlight of my Memorial Day weekend was visiting the Garden of the Gods in southern Illinois! : I had visited the place only once before and that was back in the fall of 2008. So the scenery wasn't as pretty as it was when the trees were bursting with the autumn colors, but it was still beautiful. I've posted all the pics to my Facebook profile, but here's a small sampling of what I saw:
Oh, and my step-brother found a baby turtle. 😀 It was seriously the cutest thing I've ever seen:
But the hard times happened after the Garden of the Gods when my dad decided to take a hike on the Rim Rock Trail. And at first it wasn’t so bad. I saw a puppy, a three-legged dog, a baby snake, a shirtless Native American wannabe, and this really awesome cave-like structure. 🙂 But after all those things, we took this path that was supposed to take us back to the parking lot and it was soooo hot in that forest that when we finally got to the car, I almost passed out from heat exhaustion. I kid you not. 🙁 But my dear brother got me a bottle of water, so it was all good. =)
And on more of a bummer note, I've been having a lot of low self-esteem lately and I don't know why. =( But self-esteem is really something you can only get from yourself and not from other people, so guess I'll just have to keep working on that. It's odd that the more you're able to love yourself the more you're able to love other people...you'd think that if you loved yourself less, you could love other people more, but that's actually not true at all. xD
Buuuuut on the positive side, my weekend will be filled with lots of gay stuff! :
Tomorrow I’ll be doing this car wash with my gay youth group and then on Sunday is our annual Pride Picnic! So yeah, I am most definitely looking forward to those things. And yesterday I had a lot of fun swimming at the YMCA with my mom and my brother. I haven’t been swimming in God knows how long and I forgot how refreshing it is. I also rather enjoy the YMCA’s high-powered showers. : It sure beats the puny trickles of the showers in my apartment. =P
Guess I’ll be concluding with my favorite song from a favorite musical of mine. It’s the prologue with the song “Any Dream Will Do” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. I first saw the film version of this musical 10 years ago when I was about 9 years old and I loved it just as much as “Cats”. Anyway, here it is:

This song never fails to cheer me up.
Gotta split for now. Hopefully I won’t wait as long in between blog entries next time. LOL
Current Mood: peaceful
