Due to the way my apartment is set up, my TV, computer, printer etc are all on the south wall within a few feet of each other, with everything plugged into a surge protector.
Last night as I was standing up to get something my feet got tangeled up. On my way down to the floor I managed to knock over a beer which of course landed right on said surge protector, knocking the TV and the computer out.
Laying there on the floor I said to myself self, lets go to bed before we destroy anything else. The old surge protector was fried and I had to buy a new one today but I'm happy to say the old surge protector did its job, and gave its life to save everything.
