Seriously...
Growing up, I went through my little punk phase, (I kept some of the music and the piercings, left the anarchy and anger behind) I listened to the Casualties, the Sex Pistols, the Misfits, and The Ramones. Since then, I've broadened my musical tastes and haven't really listened to much of the old stuff save for the Misfits.
The Ramones came on my iPod the other day while I was walking to work, and I could not believe that they were considered punk at all. I mean, there is nothing punk about them. They are soft, slow, and completely pop. Joey Ramone sounds like a tone deaf Buddy Holly and shit.
They came out at the same time as The Sex Pistols, The Stooges, and The Damned, but its completely befuddling that they were ever put in the same genre. I think they were only considered punk because they wore tight pants, leather jackets, and had long hair.
I mean, have you heard "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker?" It sounds like a fucking Beach Boys song.
Gah.
I'm done.
