you know everybody's got them. they make our day go by a little bit better. sometimes you don't even know how they got started. it's hard to imagine my life or my conversations without the help of these little gems of humor.
or you could call them little gems of uncomfortable for everyone else. those who don't get the inside jokes are usually left wondering, or just staring blankly. I decided that it's really hard to be myself when I am meeting someone for the first time, because my conversations are rife with inside jokes. strike that. It's easy to be myself, but I really need to watch what i say so that I don't leave the person I am conversing with in a dull haze.
here's a story to hint at what I'm talking about. a few friends and I were at hooters about a month ago. quick aside: I always laugh when people say "I just go there for the wings". just like you read playboy for the articles? I'm not afraid to admit it, it's good to get a little barely clothed female stranger in your life. to continue with the story: we had finished eating and she was on her way over to make some small talk with us and try to increase her tip. she says to me "oh I have the same phone! does it ever just randomly shut off on you?" to which I reply "no, it's pretty tame most of the time, occasionally it gets up and walks around, messes with the other electronics, but it's cool". two of my other friends sat and silently laughed while she stood there and tried to figure out what to do next. then she walked away. while my personality has rubbed off on my friends, our waitress just wasn't quick to realize that I was joking, nor did she want to, I guess. I should be more careful around those who I just met.
I like telling stories. I'm not as great at writing them. I'll tell you who is though, AnnieHall. take a look for yourself.
