So my cat had her first chemo treatment today (well, technically her second since we gave her something after her ultrasound...but it wasn't effective against the kind of cancer she has).
I thought I'd tell you all what it's like, since this is my first foray into having an animal with cancer that I had the opportunity to try any treatments with. So far, testing would have run me around $500 or so. Treatments and continued testing run around $300/month or such. I have to watch for hairloss (rare), deafness (rare), nausea, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea - all of those lovely side effects that I'm waiting to see what will happen first. She's losing more and more weight, but she still comes running to greet me when I get home, sleeps on top my head, chest, or feet, and purrs contentedly when I pet her.
Jasmine is such a sweet cat and quite a trooper. She has the ability to "talk" - as most Siamese do. She's been carted back and forth so much, I swear she seems to be getting used to the ride. And since I'll be carting her back and forth more and more, I've got to get used to her "chatter" for the 1/2 hour car ride 🙂 I know I have a limited time left with her and I want to make it as painless as possible. So that's my mission for now.
