I work at a convenience store in a small town and I get along pretty well with my co-workers, including my boss.
Back in September I pretty much became my boss's right hand gal. I put in more hours than my coworkers because I work during the day so my boss can finish her paperwork. Right now she's giving me a couple longer hours to make my trip to work worth it because of a detour I have to take. (So instead of working three hours in the morning, she gives me seven hours in the evening which is really cool of her to do.)
Anyway, I'm coming to learn that I just can't trust two of my coworkers. Trust as in their word means shit and they're always needing someone to cover for them but won't return the favor.
Just recently, my coworker's husband's grandfather passed away. It's a sad thing for her husband. Visitation is Friday night and the funeral is Saturday, which is all in Wisconsin. Kandie and her daughter Tori (who is the other coworker I can't trust) found people to cover for them, but she had very difficult time finding someone to work for her Friday night.
She asked Nikki but Nikki had promised her daughter that they would go see the fireworks at the casino. Another Misty is in Oregon, which leaves three people. Me and a husband and wife who work at the store.
She tries them, but didn't get a hold of them. So she tries me. I'm already putting in 35 hours this week plus an extra 5 hours for when I covered for this woman on Sunday because she wanted to go out to the lake so that's 40 hours in one week. On top of that I have to open that Saturday. Closing at 10 then having to get up at 5 the next morning sucks!
I told her no that I was planning on seeing my boyfriend. It's my one day off in the WHOLE week so I told her to try the other two. Then her daughter asks me, and I tell her that I told her mother that I already have plans to see my boyfriend and asked her if she had heard back from Jane and Blake. And this was about 4-5 in the afternoon. She tells me no she hadn't heard back from them yet.
I saw on her facebook that she finally got someone to work for her, which is great.
Yet I learned tonight from Nikki that Kandie had been bitching about not finding anyone to work for her (this is before Blake told her he would cover for her). She was telling Nikki that at least Nikki had legitimate reason for not working for her, but I didn't. My wanting to see my boyfriend wasn't good enough for her.
Kandie's daughter was going to write a note to our boss, letting her know that since Kandie couldn't find anyone that they were still going to Wisconsin and no one would be doing the duties. (At night there are two people working, one running the till and the other to change garbages, restock the shelves, etc.) Tori told Nikki that family was more important than work.
Which I completely understand, but Kandie's husband's GRANDFATHER who died. A GREAT-GRANDFATHER to Tori. How well does one know their great-grandfather, huh? I get Kandie being there for her husband but Tori doesn't really need to go.
I don't want to sound heartless, but sometimes things don't work out the way you want them to. Luckily things did work out for them, but I just can't trust them.
