Many of you know about my son's Asperger condition. He has been on meds since the summer and was doing quite well in school this year to the point where the principal actually called to tell us what a pleasure it was dealing with him this year.
All this came to a halt within the past two weeks. Rob had a small meltdown a couple weeks ago which prompted us to consult with his psychiatrist and subsequently increase the dosage of his meds.
He had a larger meltdown yesterday which his teachers and counselor were handling quite well until the principal decided to step in and make the decision that Rob was to be suspended for two days because of his lack of control.
This in my mind is no way to handle a child with a diagnosed mental disability. It is totally unacceptable and I cannot wrap my head around it rationally.
I worked for 26 hours straight over a 2 day period with no sleep for 54 hours, so I crashed after dropping my son off at school yesterday morning. When the pricipal did not get ahold of me, he banned my son from taking the bus home even though he had completely calmed down. Then he proceeded to call my mom's house and my brother, (fresh out of kidney surgery) had to go to the school to pick up my now stranded son.
Now my wife called the principal an hour later, and he was of course unavailable. He claims he left a voice mail stating Rob was suspended for 2 days but neither my wife or I received it, so I dropped my son off at school this morning only to get a call telling me to come and get him.
He was being perfectly well behaved and sitting quietly in the office when I went to get him. at which point I cut the principal off in mid sentence and told him he was totally wrong in what he was doing and that I was going over his head.
I wrote an email to the board of Ed asking for a meeting with the super (a woman I graduated high school with), and I intend to bring the school up on charges or remove my son from the system and file charges with the State on this matter.
In the last two months I have had a mom go into the hospital with congestive heart failure, a brother who has had 2 surgical prodedures for kidney stones, surgery on my ankle and have been totally over worked and in great physical pain.
Last night was the breaking point. I almost walked out on my wife of 10 years and came dangerously close to swallowing a bottle of pain pills due to the unclear thinking mode of my brain.
The ONLY thing that stopped me was chatting with members here in the radio chatroom during the playlist show I did last night.
You folks are a Godsend as are all of my friends here on the forum..
Anger at the system has now replaced self pity and hopelessness and I have a new fire burning through my veins to carry me forward.
Thanks to those who always seem to get me through the tough times. I would often be lost without you.
