Latest model.1/48 scale of the M10 tank destroyer, with a wider suspension tracks.Hypothetical model. The US Army did use the M10 during W.W.2 .The doctrine behind the TD's were,it was lighter than a normal M4 sherman, and had a bigger cannon.Plus the turrets were not closed off like a normal tank.
The TD's also had mounting points on the hull and turrets for "spaced" armor.
The theory behind spaced armor was, when an AP shell hit the outer armor,it would cause the shell to explode on the outer armor, and not penetrate the inner armor. I have seen only one pic of an m10 that used some extra armor on the front.
The HVSS suspension and tracks were never used on the M10.Some late war Shermans did use it. The HVSS added extra weight, but because of the wider tracks, ground presure was lower. Therefore, the tank would not get stuck so easily/.
