EXPERIENCE
I've been trying to figure out how to word this for the past week. I wanted to write something that was a little more in depth than the thread I started in the general discussion area.
Going to your first gathering as most people who attend them know is a scary experience because you don't know what to expect. No matter what people say to reassure you, you are still nervous but hopefully excited as well. The days leading up to MTP, I was both very nervous and excited. My nerves didn't just stem from attending my first gathering, but also from flying and traveling alone for the first time.
The flight to Michigan was interesting. It had been windy that day so it caused some turbulence but at the time I thought it was normal. Overall it was a good flight being it was my first time. The planes (to and from and connecting flights) were small as hell. I'm a big gal, but even an average person would find it a slight squeeze and uncomfortable.
When I arrived in Michigan, I started to get nervous, but as soon as I met Sadira, my nerves lessened. We hit it off so well that we chatted the whole car ride the resort. The conversation just flowed from one topic to the next that it felt like we had known each other longer instead of having just met mere moments ago.
Then we pulled into the resort and the nerves returned. However they vanished the moment I entered the house. It amazing. I dived in without holding anything back. For me, my main concern was how I would do in a crowd. I've never been good in social settings; I've always been a wallflower, but at MTP, I participated. I didn't just stand or sit idly by like I thought I might.
Attending MTP was the final proof of how much I changed in the past year and a half. I changed how I approached people, became more interactive. I gained some confidence and a sending a PM to someone that I want to talk to isn't as scary. All those changes led to me attending my very first gathering, and I'm so glad that I did.
The people I met were amazing. So easy to talk to, so friendly, crazy as fuck. They were my kind of people. I had an amazing time and I was sad when it was time to leave. I will be back next year.
I'm probably now biased since MTP is my first, but I highly recommend it to any newbies. Sadira and TF4F go above and beyond what even I thought hosts would do. Make sure everyone has fun and that we're stuffed to the gills with delicious dishes. You won't regret it.

Thank you for all that you did, even helping me to reassure my parents. You two are simply awesome. Planning a gathering three weeks after your wedding. How you managed it is beyond me. I hope you both had a wonderful honeymoon because it was well deserved. 😀
Chaneda. You were fun to chat with and to play with. Saturday night was so much fun with your continued attacks. Also thanks to you, everyone learned I was screamer. Lol. 😛
