Today marks one year ago that I got to meet friends from the forum for the first time, the first forum related event I attended, and the first time I got my ass on a plane. Now one year later, I've met about 130+ people from the forum, I've attended half a dozen forum related events, and have flown 14 times. Funny how much can change in a year.
Funny how one small thing turns into something big. How one small visit turns into a snowball effect. Dave (Baldadonis) invited me out to his home along with a few other friends from the forum on the weekend of his second New York Munch. At that point, I had no intention of going to my first gathering until NEST the of this year, 6 months later. I packed my stuff, got on a plane, even though the flight alone terrified me, and went. It was bar none, one of the best weekends of my life. I was already good friends with those staying at Dave's house, as well as a few of those going to the munch. A couple went to the gathering (looks at Venray) from out of state just because I was going to be there. That was a privilege, especially because he had just had surgery on both ankles after his work accident. Anyway, that weekend, hanging with those people, seeing NYC for the first time with them, the munch, EVERYTHING was amazing. Two days after getting home, I was booked for Bella's gathering. A week after that, I was invited and booked to UNY - Albany Superbowl Gathering...
Funny how something as small as a munch made such a difference. Katie had her munch today and told me "we had a new person attend that had been wanting to come to the last 2 or 3 munches here but just couldn't quite do it the first few times". Go people. If you are wanting to go to a gathering, and are worried about not knowing anyone, the easiest way to get over that fear is by going to a munch and getting to know a small group of people. You don't know it now, but something as small as a little lunch with a few people from here may give you that boost of confidence to throw yourself into the fun.
Either way, I'll wrap up saying its been an amazing year since last Oct 17. One I wouldn't trade for anything in the world. I thank God for my friends, the incredible trips I've taken, and all the new friends I continue to make here every single day. If we've met in my travels or on the forum, it was great meeting you and if we haven't yet, I hope to soon. If you haven't yet, go to a munch today, go to a gathering tomorrow, so next year I can read your blog about "One Year Ago".
