Sooo...
It's Wednesday the 31st of March and my daughter's baby has a WIC appointment. After the appointment, my daughter is supposed to come back to the new place to see what we have done with it and for a long overdue visit.
Her boyfriend, is going to be working a 12 hr shift so this'll be the perfect time to have her over.
Well... Here's what happened instead.
Her landlord who had been showing the house for the past two months even though their lease isn't up til August, found a new taker for their place who was willing to pay more. So he grasped at straws.
Her controlling boyfirend realized that she might actually have fun without him at the new place and called in too sick to work (However, he found the fortitude to come along to the appointment and seemed fine to us). So that threw a monkey wrench in the works for the visit.
Before we got there to pick them up for the appointment...
Wednesday morning at 10:00am the landlord pounded on their door and complained about the lone dog turd (literally - one turd) in the yard, bitched about their two cats (that he has known about for 7 months) and said that they owed on their rent, which was actually even overpaid by $15.
He told them that either they could sign a shorter lease (for a month I do believe) or he would just evict them. At 1pm when me and my roommate went to pick them up we told them that he didn't have a leg to stand on, that any judge would laugh him out of court, that they had a lease and that it would take more than that to break it.
When we dropped them off at 4:30 pm there was a note on their door saying they had 3 days to move out (yes, only 3 days) or he would start eviction proceedings.
I told her to get on the horn and get a lawyer. She didn't call legal aid and the lawyers she contacted did not deal with poverty level clients. So they panicked and by 6:30pm had gotten two tickets (the baby rides free) for Amtrak to go to WA State.
So much for Wednesdays plans. So much for Easter Plans... so much for a LOT of plans.
We had been trying to get them to move up here to be closer to jobs, closer to me, closer to a family atmosphere.
*sigh*
