Alrighty I've been weighing this for a while now: I've never been fond of releasing any sort of financial information over the internet or making online purchases because I find many privacy statements are just words and not iron clad defences for breach of privacy or worse yet, identity theft. Being a law grad, with a liking towards the online world in regards to privacy, I have read of many instances in caselaw and media reports where personal and/or financial information was compromised or used for other than stated purposes.
In order to register for NEST, (sorry all this is another NEST blog from me 😛 ) the general consensus is to use a site like Paypal to wire transfer the registration fee to the organizers. With Paypal, I find it a place where I'm not satisfied enough with their privacy terms to want to use it, on top of the fact that my old computer had very inadequate virus protection. This is where the SELL IT TO ME comes in...
I am fortunate enough to have gotten a new computer, (current one I'm using) that has far superior virus and spyware protection than my old one. What I need from you blog readers is to convince me that Paypal is okay to use and that the likelihood of compromise is as little as possible. I checked on using a prepaid cred. card but near me they all come in pre-determined denominations and those denominations will either leave me short or have too much remaining.
If you have a moment to post a response, please do. 😀
