I have been contemplating whether to blog about this or not since Thursday.
Back in March I went to Planned Parenthood to get on birth control pills. My relationship with Dan became intimate and it would be easier all around if I were on BC than us relying on condoms.
Well, while I was there, I talked to the doctor about a problem I had been having for over six years. I hadn't had a regular period since I was probably 16. She talked with me about a syndrome (PCOS) that I possibly might have, which BC would help with.
In the end, she was unable to give me birth control pills because my blood pressure was too high. She encouraged me to see my regular physician.
By the end of April, I was able to set an appointment to discuss my BP and my lack of periods. At first he had a poor attitude and made me feel like he didn't care, but he prescribed me some blood pressure pills and had me do some tests.
On Thursday, I did some more tests prior to my doctor's visit that was a check up to how my BP was doing. This visit went better than last time. Good news is that my blood pressure is back to normal.
Bad news is he believes that I have PCOS. PCOS causes cysts to form on my ovaries, which messes up my hormones. It explains my lack of periods, my blood pressure, my being overweight. Many of the symptoms I fit.
I have been wondering if I had this syndrome for awhile now, and I'm glad to have it confirmed. Now that I know, I'll be better able to combat it. He has now prescribed me BC to regulate my periods, and depending on the results of my blood tests, he may prescribe Metaformin. Metaformin is a diabetic medicine known to regulate sugar and insulin levels, and it is also known to be an appetite suppressant, which can help me lose weight.
With the help of my doctor, I'll be working on losing weight so I can get this under control.
