Well, I previously blogged about me and a classmate going off into the forest at night on a spirit quest for religion class.
This weekend we went out to do it. None of us really believe in supernatural things but we did what we could to get into the right mood; we brought a drum, delicious alcoholz, and my classmate even painted a bunch of runes on his face.
After watching him running up to random people and staring at them as we were on our way we finally got to the forest. It was a pretty bizarre experience. We went into the woods, and soon reached this stone statue resembling a troll. This was the first epical part of our journey, the dialogue went like this:
Me: Oh hey look! It's a troll! *points at it with flashlight*
Classmate: Don't you know? Trolls turn into stone when the sun is out...
Me: But... it's dark now! *points away flashlight, statue is no longer visible*
Classmate: *jokingly* Well, maybe the troll will come and eat us then...
*Me tries to resist temptation, but can't*
Me: What the... where did it go??? *points flashlight juuust next to where the statue is, it looks as if it's gone*
My friend freaked out, haha. He attacked me and grabbed the flashlight so he could look for himself. It was a pretty awesome prank though, I'd do it again! ^^
After that, we decided to "get closer to the nature's spirits" by intoxicating ourselves with the stuff we had brought. I wanted to find my totem animal after all, my friend had promised to help me.
We went deeper into the forest, chanting and playing the drum. Soon we reached a graveyard from the 18th century. An epidemic of cholera had spread through town at that time, and the people back then basically dug a mass grave right in the middle of the forest.
The intoxication had worn off by now, we didn't bring too much since we shouldn't wander off and drown in a lake or anything. We didn't find my totem animal, so we agreed to enter the graveyard to look for ghosts instead, but be respectful in going about it.
It was actually a rather eerie experience. We stood there, trying to see something. I bet since we WANTED to see a ghost, or just anything, that's why we actually did. I saw something that reflected light, as if there was a person a couple of hundred of meters away wearing a white gown.
The worst thing is that whatever it was, I saw it moving for several seconds. It clearly walked on two leggs too, but there was no sound from it walking over the leafs and branches, and it disappeared behind a tree.
I still believe it was just my mind playing games with me, but my friend claimed he saw it too, and he was a lot more creeped out than me. He also claims to have seen a "dog-like" thing with glowing eyes. He's paranoid though. lol
But again, I say, it was a little creepy because, well... we stood on a graveyard, in the middle of a forest, and it was pitch black. Our only source of light was the stars on the night sky. My classmate creeped me out even more, because afterwards he said: "You know, I'm glad we didn't use the flashlight on that white thing we saw, because... what if we had, and whatever it was, had still been there?"
I'm glad I'm not easily scared. Haha. I'm already over it. On a more philosophical note, as we were about to leave the forest again, we agreed that darkness shouldn't be feared; it should be embraced much in the same way as we embrace the light. To me at least, darkness can symbolize tranquility, I mean it was really quiet and calm out there. It was really nice and we left with a good feeling - and a lot of things to use for our presentation in school!
To be honest we just did this as an excuse to get drunk and go crazy, but it turned into something much more than that!
Since I didn't allow my friend to go crazy on the graveyard he had to compensate afterwards though, he drew a pentagram in the sand of a local playground, put incense sticks at each point of the star, and then wrote "We are here, beware" in the sand next to it. He's like that. I have to admit I kinda like his antics sometimes. The incense sticks was a nice touch too, lol.
Quote of the day: I can still recall old Mister Barnslow getting out every morning and nailing a fresh load of tadpoles to the old board of his. Then he'd spin it round and round, like a wheel of fortune, and no matter where it stopped he'd yell out, "Tadpoles! Tadpoles is a winner!" We all thought he was crazy. But then we had some growing up to do.
