I can't recall a point in time where I have been more frustrated with one individual in my entire life... and this individual was one of my best friends; a friendship she has since betrayed by her actions...
During high school, I was a complete "nerdjock": athletically gifted with the lack of confidence around women of a nerd. Anyways, there was this one girl I met originally playing co-ed volleyball who completely changed my life by simply talking to me and being my friend. Up until recently she was one of my best friends and had been since that day in high school. (almost 10 years ago) For her post-secondary education, she decided to go to a university outside of where we live and moved to that area to live and study. Unfortunately, it was there where her life took a very bad turn...
I really can't divulge much details but let's just say that my friend was violated in a manner requiring the court of criminal law... I found out about it a few months after when I dropped by to see her and a bit after that she moved back home. Her moving back was supposed to be the chance to do lots of stuff with her; both me and all of our friends. She, however, dropped off the face of the planet. This happened about June/July-ish 2008 so fast-froward now to August 2009.
I get a call from my friend that she needed my help. Apparently what had happened was that she met a guy, supposedly fell in love with him and moved into a place with him. That guy, however, did not treat her with a whole lot of respect and was very very dominant over her in a bad way. She resorted to doing things I had never even heard of her ever doing; she was arrested, charged and convicted of credit card theft and fraud. She called me to pick her up, after he was arrested for assaulting her, to assist with some court matters. There I told her that she had to let this guy go, even if she still loved him, because there was no guarantee he wouldn't do it again, or worse. She promised me there that she was done with him.
Fast-forward again to today... Due to some issues with her folks, which I knew of prior, she informed me and my friends that she was going to be moving in with a friend further into town in order to get out while assist her with work proximity, or so I thought. I recently discovered from one of my friends, who's also a work buddy, that she not only lied about moving in with a friend but that she actually chose to go back to the guy who assaulted her. She was staying with my friend's parents but when she lied to them about her still seeing the guy, they kicked her out.
This is so extremely frustrating because she has taken the trust, opinions and beliefs of the people who love her and care for her... and turned them onto their respective heads. When I found out what she had done, I decided then and there that I could no longer help her or be her friend: especially given that she broke her promise to me and went back to him and lied about it.
I hope that she's safe and can find help at some point but from now on, that help won't be coming from me. I'm sorry for the length and really unnecessary nature of this entry but this was something that was burning me up inside and I just had to vent and get it off my chest.
Until next time,
Josh
